COURSE DESCRIPTION :

      This course is designed to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes of a
Legal Transcriptionist in accordance with industry standards. It covers core
competencies such as: Use Legal terminology to carry out task and Produce text
from audio transcription.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

         Upon completion of the course, the trainees/students must be able to:

         1.   Respond appropriately to instruction
         2.   Use appropriate Legal terminology in the performance of routine tasks
         3.   Prepare for audio transcription
         4.   Transcribe audio file
         5.   Edit and revise text


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

             can communicate in both oral and written form;
             must be physically and mentally fit;
             with good moral character; and
             must pass the assessment and profiling of the LTSO

Module1 - Using Legal Terminology to carry out Task

Module 2 - Producing Text from Audio Transcription

3. Qualification of Instructor:

         TRAINERS QUALIFICATION:

             Must have undergone training on Training Methodology or equivalent
             Must be computer literate
             Must have at least (1) one year job/industry experience / competence
              on the subject matter to be taught.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
    1. Legal Terminology is used correctly in the completion of routine tasks.
    2. Gaps in knowledge are identified and clarification is sought through
       appropriate person.
    3. Abbreviations for commonly used Legal terminology are identified and
       used, where appropriate.
    4. Advice is sought from designated person with regards to Legal terms
       and accompanying process, if necessary.

LO2.       Transcribe Audio File

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
    1. Text is produced from transcription at 350 lines per day with the
       required accuracy 98% prior to On-the-Job training (OJT).
    2. Audio transcription reflected the intended meaning of the author/lawyer
       with transcribed work.
    3. The meaning of unclear speech is predicted from the context of the
       dictation.
    4. Meaning and spelling of technical terms are clarified to ensure accuracy
       of the text.
    5. Text is produced within designated timelines.
    6. Transcription is self-checked for accuracy.

    1. Final text is self-checked for accuracy.
    2. Grammar and syntax are appropriate for the intended purpose.
    3. Text is revised, formatted, labeled, stored, and printed in accordance
       with the requirements.

     Proofreading and editing skills.
     Correct grammar and punctuation.
     Reading and comprehension skills.
     Researching skills.
