•   Tests made in 2003

•   H and V scrapers at 51459 (from ISR)

•   2 stage collimation system:
      primary collimators at 51699 (V) and 51702 (H) at 90° from scrapers
      secondary collimators at 51932(V) and 51931 (H) at 90° from primaries
      2 jaws (IN/OUT or UP/DOWN) per collimator

•   2 preparation tests,
      first one on P2 to set-up equipment,
      the second one during long MD to adjust the scraper timing on the flat top.

             one batch of 28.1011 protons
             10% of the current removed
             V scraper sweeping at 0.3 mm
             in the second half of flat top


•   Collimator adjusted in order to concentrate the losses at their location.

                                 However

•   LSS5 must be kept clean – lots of instrumentation

•   The whole set of scrapers & collimators must be relocated elsewhere (2005)

•   Looks difficult in sextants 1 2 3

•   LSS6 possible candidate but not straightforward

•   Cost: 12 k CHF (cables + transport) + 10 k CHF if VME crate needed

•   Cooling needed in the future

•   Scrapers 30 years old (ISR) ⇉ exceed their MTBF
         ⇉ need probably to be rejuvenated for reliable daily operation

•   New components, new study : ≃ 15 k CHF

•   At the moment works on P2 events only

•   Timing adjustments (experts) required to scrape on P1 (long MDs)

•   New software for scrapers being prepared (G. Crockford- J.J. Gras)
          problem should be solved

•   Collimators , scintillators to be incorporated ?

    Costs and hardware implications for another scraper

•    One scraper associated with 4 collimators ?
           H & V primary and H & V secondary

•    2 scraper mechanisms in reserve,
           one available for installation, one kept as a spare

•    3 collimators in reserve,

•    4 (radioactive) other ones stored in ISR tunnel, some handling is required to looked
     at them;
•    one of them easily accessible, 38 mSv, W, Cu oxydation to be checked, vacuum
     tests to be performed ?


•    motorisation available, to be incorporated
