Eagle Scout donates 4000 books to Community Nurse

(LaGrange, IL)—More than 4,000 books were collected, sorted and donated to
Community Nurse by Eagle Scout candidate Tom Miller, a 17 year old resident
of LaGrange who will be a senior at Nazareth Academy.

Throughout the summer, Tom worked with local churches to speak to their
congregations and host drives. He placed a box at each location with a
description of his project and information about Community Nurse. People
generously supported his project to the tune of 4000 books. He stored the books
in his parent’s garage and it took several trips in their SUV to bring all the books
to The Carousel Shop.

Tom personally sorted all the books by category—breaking them down into
fiction romance, mystery, non fiction, Spanish, children, cookbooks, etc. The
books were donated to The Carousel Shop, 23 Calendar Ave. LaGrange. The
resale shop proceeds benefit the health and dental clinics at Community Nurse.
More than 100 volunteers a week donate their time to serve as sorters, pricers
and cashiers.

Tom summed up the project by saying:
“Thank you for helping me with my Eagle Scout project, and more than that,
thank you for what you do for our community. You work with a noble cause to
help those in need, and you deserve to be applauded. You save the lives of those
less fortunate. Thank you for your willingness to work with me to meet my
goals.”

Community Nurse provides health and dental care to 2,900 uninsured and low
income people in the western suburbs.
