                        RYERSON BENEFITS
UPDATE FOR CUPE LOCAL 233 MEMBERS & EARLY RETIREES

                          VISION CARE BENEFIT
We are pleased to inform you that the recently ratified Collective Agreement between the University
and CUPE Local 233 included an improvement in the vision care provision of the Extended Health
Care Plan for full-time employees, term employees with eligible service and Early Retirees with
benefits.

The vision care provision under the Extended Health Care Benefit reimburses for the purchase of
prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses. Prior to the negotiated agreement, full-time employees,
term employees with 12 or more months of eligible service and Early Retirees with benefits and their
registered eligible dependents were each entitled to be reimbursed for up to $350 for prescription
glasses and $350 for prescription contact lenses in an 18-month period. Effective January 29, 2007, the
vision care benefit has been amended to include laser eye surgery up to $350 in an 18-month period.

This means that as of January 29, 2007, the vision care benefit includes any two of the following
services to a maximum benefit of $700 per insured, in an 18-month period: prescription glasses limited
to $350; prescription contact lenses limited to $350; laser eye surgery limited to $350. The current 18-
month period runs from July 1, 2006 to December 31, 2007.

Term employees with 4 to 12 months of eligible service are covered at 50% of eligible expenses
limited to any two of the following services to a maximum benefit of $500 per insured, in a 2-year
period: prescription glasses limited to $250; prescription contact lenses limited to $250; laser eye
surgery limited to $250 (effective January 29, 2007). The current 2-year period runs from January 1,
2007 to December 31, 2008.

The CUPE 233 benefit summaries have been updated to reflect this amended benefit. Employees and
Retirees should refer to their group benefit summary for detailed benefit coverage information. Benefit
summaries can be downloaded from the Human Resources website at
http://www.ryerson.ca/working/employees/benefits/index.html. Alternatively, if you do not have access
to the internet, you may obtain a copy from the Benefits Unit by calling 416-979-5000, extension 4146
or visit Human Resources Reception on the 9th floor of Jorgenson Hall.
