NESTLED BETWEEN THE Coast Range and the
Pacific Ocean, Newport has been a vacation
hotspot since 1856. Newport’s various attractions
complement the natural beauty of the area. They
include the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Hatfield
Marine Science Center, two historic lighthouses,
the Bayfront, and historic Nye Beach. The
Bayfront bustles with activity, from the U.S.
Coast Guard Station, to the restaurants, family
 attractions, charter boats, and galleries.
In February, Newport hosts one of the
Northwest’s largest seafood and wine festivals.
Other annual events are the Loyalty Days and
Sea Fair Festival in May, the Lincoln County Fair
and Rodeo in July, and Sea of Lights and Parade
of Boats during the holidays. Other events
throughout the year include the Lincoln County
Community Concert Series and the Oregon
Coast History Center exhibits and displays for
young people at its two museums—Burrows
House and the Log Cabin Museum.

of number one retirement community in the
United States by Retirement Places Rated. With
a population of 7780, Florence has a modern
hospital, library, and events center. Old Town is
a vibrant riverfront district with many shops,

Coast—the Three Rivers Casino.
A short distance to the north of town are the
popular Sea Lion Caves and one of the most pho-
tographed sites on the Oregon Coast, Heceta Head
Lighthouse. Florence serves as the northern gate-
way to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation
Area, which begins south of the Siuslaw River.
Florence is also home to the first designated
State Park Dive Park, which is located on the
Siuslaw River just off North Jetty Road, and the
world’s first sand-board park on the north end
of town, which includes jumps, rail slides, and
40 acres of private sculpted dunes.

plenty of challenge.Avalon Park Pitch & Putt,
less demanding, welcomes all skill levels to its
