    Sculpture Challenge, Picnic & House Tours
May 22nd from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The art of recycling is front and center during
Abington Art Center‟s first-ever sculpture
challenge. In collaboration with Montgomery
County‟s Recycling Office, teams will build outdoor
sculpture out of found objects from nature and
recyclable materials.
Teams can be families, friends, classmates, art

staples. All material will be recycled. There is a limit of 4
boxes or bags per car. The boxes can be no bigger then 1.2
cubic feet. Whatever container used, it cannot weigh more
than 30 lbs. Do not bring: newspapers, books or magazines,
plastic covering or cardboard, CD‟s or floppy discs.

            Road Work Notice

Mill Road will be closed and detoured between
Coates Road and Moredon Road in Abington
Township for 11 months starting Tuesday, March
15 to replace the structurally deficient stone arch
bridge over a branch of Meadow Brook. The
new bridge is scheduled to open in February
2012.

                  Flood Maps
FEMA has released new preliminary flood maps for the
Township of Abington. These maps show whether
properties are in high, moderate or low risk of flooding.
These maps are also known as Flood Insurance Rate Maps
(FIRM) and are used to determine the need for a property
owner to carry flood insurance. These maps may be
reviewed in person at the Township Engineer‟s Office.
Note: These maps are preliminary and FEMA is requesting
municipal review and public comment. FEMA has set up a
webpage to answer your questions, supply appeal and

At their scheduled 2011 Final Budget Meeting on December
9th, the Abington Board of Commissioners chose to cancel
the Abington Transit Bus due to budgetary constraints and
declining ridership. Our final day of service will be
December 29, 2010.
We understand the importance of this bus service to you
and apologize for any inconvenience this action will cause
you. May we suggest the following bus services as an

Alverthorpe Retired Citizens of Abington Township
is a group of seniors in the area who get together
for programs, activities, and day tours designed with
seniors in mind. Join a group of folks (55 and older)
