Vestas China President Meets with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao

Beijing, April 30 – Vestas, the world leader in wind energy, was honoured to have its China President,
Jens Tommerup, meet with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao yesterday. The occasion was part of a higher
level meeting between Premier Wen and the EU President Barroso joined by representatives of leading
European businesses in China at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

President Barroso led a delegation of Commissioners on a trip to China to discuss bilateral issues,
global challenges such as the economic and financial crisis, climate change and international security
with the Chinese leadership.

Vestas was invited to this meeting as a key European based multinational enterprise in China and a
leading player in China’s strategically-important renewable energy sector. Being the wind energy
company with the longest history and one of the major players in China, Vestas has demonstrated –
and will continue to demonstrate – its strong commitment to China.

Vestas is encouraged by Premier Wen’s actions and is very hopeful that this high-level dialogue will
result in stronger relations and a better mutual understanding between the government and leading
multinational corporations.

“It is very important to have a sincere high-level dialogue between businesses and the highest level of
the Chinese government, and we appreciate this opportunity,” says Jens Tommerup. “We hope that
this can be the first step in a continuing discussion about the future development of the wind energy
sector in China and what role Vestas and other multinational companies can play in meeting industry
challenges.”

The Chinese government has provided strong support and leadership for driving the growth of the wind
energy industry, with the result that China is now the world’s fastest-growing and most dynamic wind
energy market. Vestas has very strong confidence in the further development and growth of the
Chinese market, and look forward to more comprehensive participation in the sustainable development
of the industry.

Vestas is a pioneer in the Chinese market, having installed the first wind turbines in China in 1986 in
Shandong and Hainan Provinces. Today, Vestas has 3,000 employees in five locations in China,
including three manufacturing complexes – among them, the largest wind power-manufacturing
complex for Vestas globally, producing generators, blades, nacelles, hubs and control systems – and a
global sourcing office. In 25 years of operation in China, Vestas has invested more than RMB 3.5
billion.

As of December 2009, Vestas has installed a total of 2,043 wind turbines in China, which translates into
2,106.60 MW of power generation capacity. Vestas turbines are used throughout 13 different provinces
in China.

As the industry leader in innovation and technology and the most experienced company in the business,
Vestas is determined to use our expertise and knowledge to support the development of a strong wind
energy industry and a more sustainable China. Vestas is sponsoring research in power systems at
Tsinghua University and Xian Jiaotong. We have provided our expertise and experience in partnerships
to support the integration of wind energy into electricity grid in China and we are contributing to better
understanding of the science of how to best find the exact location for wind turbines through a training
program developed with the Danish-Chinese Wind Energy Development Program.

Vestas is firmly dedicated to furthering and playing a leading role in the development of wind energy in
China – to the benefit of China and the Chinese people. Vestas will remain strongly committed to wind
energy in China and to being a partner in the government’s long-term sustainable development
agenda.

About Vestas

Every single day, Vestas wind turbines deliver clean energy that supports the global fight against
climate change. Wind power from Vestas turbines currently reduces carbon emissions by more than 40
million tons of CO2 every year, while at the same time building energy security and independence.

Vestas is the world leader in wind technology, with a history of technological innovation and over 30
years of experience in developing, manufacturing, installing and maintaining wind turbines. Vestas was
a pioneer in the wind industry and started to manufacture wind turbines in 1979. In 1987, the company
began to concentrate exclusively on wind energy.

Vestas was the first wind turbine company to enter the Chinese market when it installed the first
turbines in Shandong and Hainan in 1986. Vestas has installed wind turbines in thirteen provinces in
China and is among the biggest accumulated suppliers of wind turbines in China.

Vestas has five factories in Tianjin, a sales office in Beijing, a new factory in Hohhot, a procurement
office in Shanghai, and is currently commissioning a new foundry in Xuzhou. By the end of 2009,
Vestas had invested more than three billion RMB in China and 3,000 employees committed to
providing wind energy solutions to Vestas’ customers and partners in China. This is a concrete sign of
our confidence in the Chinese wind energy sector.

Vestas is working hard to build up a strong value chain in China that can fully support the construction
of wind turbines from its factories in China. Every year, Vestas improves its Chinese sourcing
capabilities; the aim is to have 100 per cent Chinese-made content. Vestas is known for its
industry-leading product quality; all of its suppliers in China are part of a partnership designed to
increase product quality and performance and enable suppliers to become globally-competitive.

As the global leader in wind energy, Vestas is committed to helping develop China’s wind energy sector.
Vestas is eager to share our 30 years of industry experience and expertise with China.
