MABC Percussion Ensemble
Purpose
Provide qualified percussionists to support Mt. Ararat’s Music Ministry.
Goals
• Provide a Christian teaching environment that is supported by parents and
participants.
• Train individuals in drum and percussion techniques.
• Train participants to read music.
• Train participants to listen and appreciate all types of music.
• Make training experience fun and enjoyable for participants.
Slogan
“If you can not master the single drum, you can not play multiple drums”
Motto
“Repetition breeds EXCELLENCE! Discipline breeds KNOWLEDGE!”
Biblical Guidance
• Participant attendance in Sunday School.
• Participant attendance at Mid-Week Bible study.
• Participant attendance at Sunday Worship Service(s).
Participant Drum Materials (Required)
• Practice pad can be either of the following:
o Old residential pages phone book (preferred)
o Thick catalog books: Sears, J.C. Penny, or Spiegel
o Business pages phone book
o Cable channel guide
• One pair of SD1 drumsticks made by VICFIRTH.
• Drum rudiments sheet (provided by instructor)
• Music book: Schinstine & Hoey’s Percussion Method,” Basic Drum Book”,
published by the Southern Music Company, San Antonio, Texas
• 2” Three ring binder (red)
Percussion Training Locations
• #1 - MABC music room, 2nd floor FLC
• #2 – Participant home – individual practice
Percussion Training Times
• 7:30pm – 9:00pm : Music room location #1
• 7:30pm – 8:10pm : Participant home location #2

Schedule repeats with meeting every other Monday at the MABC location.
Field Trips
On occasion group field trips will be scheduled to help enhance the musical experience
taught as well as to grow the participant’s appreciation for music.
Progress Reports
Each participant will be reviewed for progress while in the program.
A progress chart will be provided to the participant.

Rules
The Percussion Program IS:
• Under the direction and leadership of the music ministry director
• A teaching and training environment
• Learning environment
• Emphasis on drum and percussion, and general music
• A competitive and supportive environment
• Fun and enjoyable
• Music appreciation
• A percussion ensemble working together cooperatively
The Percussion Program IS NOT:
• A baby sitting service
The Participant is EXPECTED TO:
• Be courteous and non-disruptive
• Listen and participate in all activities
• Respect other drum mates
• Ask questions on any part of the lesson or instruction
• Practice, practice, practice
• Not to engage in fighting, shoving, or pushing with anyone in the program
• Arrive promptly for all sessions
• Have Fun
Disciplinary Actions:
First Infraction – Verbal warning to participant.
Second Infraction – Verbal warning to participant with parent present.
Third Infraction – Written statement is sent to parent. Participant is suspended
for two (2) weeks.
Fourth Infraction – Participant is suspended indefinitely. Re-instatement is only
permitted by review by the music ministry director and the percussion instructor.
Infractions:
• Non-Christian behavior.
• Behavior or attitudes that are in opposition to any rules or expectations set by the
Rules section.
• Fighting.

• Disrespectful to any participant or instructor.
• Insubordination (disobedience, defiance, rebelliousness, mutiny, unruliness, non-
compliance)
• Bad language of any kind.
