We still need Medical Volunteers and Crew to assist with the Avon Walk Houston!
We are looking for doctors, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, podiatrists, physical therapists, massage therapists and
chiropractors to provide medical services to support our amazing Walkers! Our Medical Crew commit to spending
the weekend (Saturday and Sunday). If someone is not able to commit to the whole weekend, we can still use
their help as a Medical Volunteer. Medical Volunteers work one or more *four hour* shifts on Saturday, April 16
and Sunday, April 17. Please call us at 713-968-9250 or email volunteer.houston@avonwalk.org and we’ll
get you signed up to help!

                                           CHEERING STATIONS
Cheering Stations are public places along the Avon Walk route where volunteers, spectators, friends and family
members can come out and support the Walkers. They are located all along the 39.3 mile walk route (26.2 miles
on Saturday and 13.1 miles on Sunday) with designated times. Nothing is more fun or more encouraging than
seeing smiling faces at Cheering Stations. So grab your pink flare, motivating posters and pom poms - it’s time to
CHEER!

Please fill out the information below and indicate your top three Cheering Station choices by the title of
the Cheering Station and the date. (See Cheering Station information and location list below.) You don’t need to
host a Cheering Station on both Saturday and Sunday, but you’re more than welcome to!

WHAT IS A CHEERING STATION?

Avon Walk Cheering Stations are select locations throughout the entire 39.3 mile Walk route on Saturday, April
16th and Sunday, April 17th which Avon Walk Staff have identified as safe and accessible sites to cheer. The
Cheering Stations are permitted for use from local governmental agencies and business owners. As a Cheering
Station Volunteer, you become an integral part of the Avon Walk Community and have the opportunity to
positively affect each and every Walker’s journey.

We are always looking for Cheering Stations Captains to rally family and friends to bring a group to support a
Cheering Station. We will also publicize each site to the Houston Community to rally their support and encourage
them to join you at your Cheering Station.

WHAT IS REQUIRED OF THE CHEERING STATION CAPTAIN?

 Rally and recruit your friends, co-workers, neighbors, colleagues and family to be part of your
Cheering Station and ensure a lively and engaging experience for the Walkers!
 Communicate with your Cheering Station Volunteers all necessary details such as location of the
Cheering Station, arrival time and schedule, parking instructions and theme information.
 Ensure that all Cheering Station participants arrive on-time and remain for the duration of your
scheduled Cheering Station (3-4 hours total).
 Create a fun theme supported by elements such as: costumes, posters and signage, balloons,
bubbles, noisemakers and/or music (played on a battery-powered radio).

THINGS TO REMEMBER

 Please be a courteous neighbor and leave the Cheering Station as clean as your found it and obey all
traffic rules so that we will be invited back next year.
 Participant Volunteer Waivers are required to be signed – please contact the Crew & Volunteer
            Coordinator more information.
 Anyone under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult as Avon Walk Staff are not present.
 All Cheering Stations are subject to change and we greatly appreciate your flexibility.
 Please note our Cheering Stations are not our hydration, food and medical stops along the route –
those are handled by our Crew and positions are full for the 2011 Avon Walk.
 All Walkers have passed by when the Caboose (Staff member on bicycle) rides by.
 Please remember that this is not a political venue or place for personal propaganda. Any business
interested in dispersing brand material must get approval from the Crew &Volunteer Coordinator prior
            to the Event.
 Please do not hand out food or beverages to Walkers due to city health codes, unless approved by
the Crew & Volunteer Coordinator in advance.
o If your shift takes place during a meal time, you are welcome to bring your own snacks or
food. Please be sure to clean up after yourselves. Food will not be provided by the Avon
                      Walk.

                                             SIGN-UP TODAY!
