Introduction
54.1 remove sealing tape error message is displayed when the two copper contacts on the left side of
a new toner cartridge do not meet with the small metal ball contacts embedded in a spring-loaded
white plastic piece on the inner left side of the printer. Things that may be preventing the cartridge from
being seated fully and can prevent contact are as follows:

 The sealing tape has not been removed from a new toner cartridge
 The transfer roller is installed backwards
 The transfer roller is not seated correctly
 Packing material was not removed and is in the way
 The toner cartridge grounding spring is in the incorrect position

NOTE: A very common component to this issue that can confuse people is: If you take a cart from a
working printer and put it in this failing unit, it works fine. This makes it look like a toner issue.
Additionally if you take the toner from the failing printer and put it in a working printer, it works fine.

 Inspect the transfer roller. Ensure that it is correctly seated with the blue gear toward the toner
cartridge spring. If the transfer roller is installed improperly or is completely out, the toner
cartridge may not fully seat to make proper contact
 Ensure any packing material that could prevent the cartridge from being fully seated, has
been removed, for example, sealing tape, or foam packing materials.

 Reseat the toner cartridge grounding spring. If the spring is not in the correct position, the
    cartridge may not properly seat.
         1. Remove the toner cartridge.
         2. Validate that the toner cartridge grounding spring is in the correct position. Reseat if
necessary by grasping the spring and inserting it into the farthest notch. See Figure
             5.

1 - Insert spring here and release

2 - Do NOT insert spring here, as shown.

            3. Replace the toner cartridge.
            4. Check the event log for any 10.00.00 and/or 10.10.00 errors.

NOTE: The event log can be viewed with the toner cartridge removed and the lid
                 closed.

 If there are no 10.00.00 and/or 10.10.00 errors in the event log, replace the
                          printer power supply.
 If there are 10.00.00 and/or 10.10.00 errors appearing in the event log along
with the 54.1, please refer to the following instructions to resolve these
                          errors.
                               1. Check the connector between the DC controller and the PCA
(location J97) and the memory chip on the print cartridge (location
                                    J600).
                               2. Replace the memory chip cable.
                               3. Replace the DC controller.
            5. If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact the Resource Desk or other
                 authority for replacement.
