Member Profile: Colleen Colton, NMG
hen Colleen Colton, NMG, was hired in
1985 to start a pilot guardianship program
for the elderly in her county, she often had
to gain state approval to check her clients’ records in a
nursing home. Now, with a staff of 21 and clients of
all ages in her independent agency, Colleen
appreciates that non-family guardians have become
more visible and accepted.
Still, while she is happy for the progress she and
others in the field have made since then, she also
realizes that there is a long way to go before the
letters after her name are widely recognized and
understood.
“I look forward to the day when it will be common
for the public to know what NMG means, as well as
where to go if they have a need or complaint,” she
said. Colleen Colton, NMG
