					CITATION

When Florence Seriki commenced one-on-one computer training for executives over
twenty one years ago, little did she know that she was going to leave a mark in the
sands of time. From the humble beginning of private „coaching‟ lessons, the class
grew in leaps and bounds, as she continued to receive training requests from Banks,
Oil Companies and other large corporations. News about the „Computer Whiz kid‟
spread round and she soon gained the confidence of decision makers in these Banks
to handle all their computer requirements-from training to purchases, to after sales
support.

The sales girl in Florence was awakened when in the course of meeting up with the
computer supplies; she realized that she could market these products to a wider
clientele. From that moment on, she has been unstoppable and this has culminated in
the establishment of Omatek Computers Limited- the only company in Africa to
manufacture Computers and casings from Completely Knocked Down (CKD)
components sourced from the highest grades of manufacturers thus making Omatek
products of world – class standards. The factories are cited in Nigeria and Ghana.

Driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, she moved to market the Omatek brand of
Computers, promoting „Made in Nigeria‟ products and proving to the whole world that
„Made in Nigeria‟ products are as effective, if not better than their foreign
counterparts. Her quest to sustain the production quality and continue to meet the
minimum order quantity requirements of some of the best manufacturers, led her to
embrace the Small Medium Enterprises Scheme in partnership with two of Nigeria‟s
biggest banks, Zenith International and Guaranty Trust Banks to:

 Produce Nigerian made Computer Cases, Speakers, Keyboards and Mouse
       from Completely Knocked Down components
 Produce Made in Nigeria Omatek Computers, Notebooks and Servers
 Generate employment opportunities in the IT industry for youths.
 Be included in University curriculum as a pre requisite for graduating as a
       computer engineer.
 Export computers, cases and speakers within Africa.

The SME funding soon became grossly insufficient, as the demand for Omatek
products continued to grow, following a government policy introduced by the then
Obasanjo Administration which compelled all Federal Government Ministries,
Departments and Agencies to buy made in Nigeria computers.

Today, the status of Omatek Ventures has changed from being an SME to being the
first ICT Company to be listed on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Omatek
is reputed to be one of the fastest companies to make it to the floor of the Nigerian
Stock Exchange, considering the short period between the Private Placement and
the listing itself

Flo, as she is fondly called, has received many awards and accolades for her
contribution to the development of the ICT industry in Nigeria and Africa. The
immediate past President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Chief
Olusegun Obasanjo honoured her with a Commendation Presidential Breakfast in
2004.

Recognized by the ICT industry for her entrepreneurship and drive, she was
recently inducted into the Obafemi Awolowo University, Faculty of Technology Hall
of Fame, together with Chief Ralph Alabi, Chairman, Guinness Nigeria Plc and Engr.
Ernest Ndukwe, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of Nigerian Communications
Commission (NCC).

In November 2005, Omatek Computers Limited beat 42 other countries to win the
“Microsoft Systems Builder Award for West, East and Central Africa”, an
international award by Microsoft which was an attestation to the quality,
consistency and volume of the Omatek brand of computers compared to the foreign
brands”.

Some of the other awards she has won include:

 Titans of Technology Award, 2009
 Nigerian American Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneurship Award.
 Outstanding Female Entrepreneur of the year, 2003.
 Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Excellence in Enterprise Award, 2005.
 Best IT Woman of the Year 2003.
 Distinguished O.A.U Alumni Award for outstanding Achievement in IT.
 FELLOW Award by the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, 2004.

       contributions to ICT, 2005.

comparative leadership for Africans and blacks in diaspora and the Accolade
       communication.
 National Merit award of the Member of the Republic of Nigeria (MFR),
in recognition of her selfless service to Motherland

A believer in Local Content Development in the ICT sector and the enormous
potential that ICT will play in achieving the Millennium Development Goals of
economy development, OMATEK has partnered with other private sector players and
academic institutions on RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT to "ensure that the benefits
of new technologies, especially ICT are available to all. This has resulted in the
establishment of Omatek Resource Centres across many Universities to provide
hands-on experience for undergraduates.

Florence Seriki remains resolutely committed to Youth empowerment and capacity
building arising from these R & D projects which she believes will ultimately lead to
the eradication of poverty and illiteracy. With its e-Express Consumer initiative,
Omatek, in collaboration with its partner banks, has continued to empower millions of
Nigerians to own computers through an easy repayment plan.

Florence is a member of the Nigerian National Information Technology Advisory
Committee, Chairperson of the Electronic and Telecommunications group of the
Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of the Information
Technology Association of Nigeria, Council Member, Lagos Chamber of Commerce
