CITATION When Florence Seriki commenced one-on-one computer training for executives over twenty one years ago, little did she know that she was going to leave a mark in the sands of time. From the humble beginning of private „coaching‟ lessons, the class grew in leaps and bounds, as she continued to receive training requests from Banks, Oil Companies and other large corporations. News about the „Computer Whiz kid‟ spread round and she soon gained the confidence of decision makers in these Banks to handle all their computer requirements-from training to purchases, to after sales support. The sales girl in Florence was awakened when in the course of meeting up with the computer supplies; she realized that she could market these products to a wider clientele. From that moment on, she has been unstoppable and this has culminated in the establishment of Omatek Computers Limited- the only company in Africa to manufacture Computers and casings from Completely Knocked Down (CKD) components sourced from the highest grades of manufacturers thus making Omatek products of world – class standards. The factories are cited in Nigeria and Ghana. Driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, she moved to market the Omatek brand of Computers, promoting „Made in Nigeria‟ products and proving to the whole world that „Made in Nigeria‟ products are as effective, if not better than their foreign counterparts. Her quest to sustain the production quality and continue to meet the minimum order quantity requirements of some of the best manufacturers, led her to embrace the Small Medium Enterprises Scheme in partnership with two of Nigeria‟s biggest banks, Zenith International and Guaranty Trust Banks to: Produce Nigerian made Computer Cases, Speakers, Keyboards and Mouse from Completely Knocked Down components Produce Made in Nigeria Omatek Computers, Notebooks and Servers Generate employment opportunities in the IT industry for youths. Be included in University curriculum as a pre requisite for graduating as a computer engineer. Export computers, cases and speakers within Africa. The SME funding soon became grossly insufficient, as the demand for Omatek products continued to grow, following a government policy introduced by the then Obasanjo Administration which compelled all Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies to buy made in Nigeria computers. Today, the status of Omatek Ventures has changed from being an SME to being the first ICT Company to be listed on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Omatek is reputed to be one of the fastest companies to make it to the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, considering the short period between the Private Placement and the listing itself Flo, as she is fondly called, has received many awards and accolades for her contribution to the development of the ICT industry in Nigeria and Africa. The immediate past President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo honoured her with a Commendation Presidential Breakfast in 2004. Ernest Ndukwe, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
