Welcome Back to Trinity, Mission-Trippers
Led by Vicar Tormod, the “Mission Trippers” returned home to Trinity last Saturday (June
11), having served for a week among the people of Gary, Indiana. Participants were
Brenda Beegle, Fred & Arlene Fluke, Mike & Pat Macchiarolo, Maggi Secrest, Josh
Wakefield, and the Vicar. While they were there, they devoted their time to restoring
homes in an impoverished area of Gary, Indiana which were flood-damaged in 2008
(17,000 were damaged, and all but about 150 have been restored). The Mission
Trippers will share a presentation with the congregation about their experience at the
Adult Forum when Sunday School resumes in September. The trip was supported by a
grant from the Tome Ministry Fund.

We’re Sharing a “Thank You Dinner” with the Bedford Firefighters
Thursday, July 7…
Plans are being made to serve a “nice” dinner to the firefighters of the Bedford Fire
Department as an expression of our appreciation for their response to our recent Parish
House Fire… We‟ll be gathering at the Church to prepare the meal at 5:00 pm and then
transporting things to the firehouse and serving the firefighters (at the conclusion of a
monthly meeting). If you would like to share in the work, please sign up in Trinity Hall.
The menu will be similar to the youth‟s celebrated chicken-parmesan dinners… See Pr
Short for more information or with any questions.
Pledges for the Roofing, Steeple, Lighting, and Painting Projects are Rolling In…
... THANK YOU to each and every parishioner and friend who has shared a commitment of
support with the expenses of these much needed projects! Remember – even modest
gifts shared monthly through the years ahead will help us achieve our goal as we all
shoulder the responsibility of caring for our facilities.
… Within the next few days, the refinancing of the $190,000 mortgage with the ELCA‟s
Mission Investment Fund will be completed, moving us to a 5 year fixed rate term of
4.5% (down from 6.5%) requiring monthly minimum payments of c. $3,550.00. This
action will save us more than $10,500 in financing costs during the next 5 years.
… If you‟ve not taken the time to make a pledge to support this work through the upcoming
36 months/3 years, please take a moment to do so as soon as possible. You may
consider making your gift as a memorial or honorarium gift to a family member, friend, or
a special occasion. Pledge Cards are in Trinity Hall or please call the church office.
Free Community Dinner Notes…
Every Tuesday ~ Serving from 5:30-6:15 pm
Trinity hosts this weekly ministry which supports local families and friends, serving an
average of c. 70+ dinner each week. Parishioners of neighboring congregations also
share in the ministry, giving witness to our common Christian devotion to the needs of
those in our community. This week‟s cooks and servers will be the parishioners of St
Thomas Roman Catholic Church.
UPDATE… Fire in the Parish House…
Staff Offices Relocated to the Youth Rooms…
… Our historic Parish House, which provided office space for our Parish Staff, was
vandalized Wednesday morning, June 8, and severely damaged by fires which were set
by the intruders.
… The response of the Bedford Fire Department, assisted by the Everett, Shawnee Valley
and Alum Bank squads, brought the fires under control very quickly. Their efforts are
… Our insurance policies provide for replacement costs for items which were stolen,
damaged, and/or destroyed. Agents and adjusters of Reed, Wertz & Roadman and
Cincinnati Insurance Company have been very supportive.
… The extent of the damage is quite severe, and will require significant gutting of a vast
majority of most of the first and second floor offices. It is VERY unsafe to enter the
facilities, as holes have burned through the floors and areas of ceilings have fallen. Most
of the contents in the offices have been destroyed or damaged beyond salvaging.
… Professional cleaning and restoration teams have begun creating a thorough inventory of
the contents of all the offices and assessing the extent of the work which will be
necessary to prepare the facilities for eventual restoration and reconstruction.
… Our staff offices have been relocated to the Youth Rooms, which are located on the 1st
floor of the Education Wing, near the elevator entrance. The most convenient way to
access these spaces is via the Penn Street handicapped-accessible entrance near
Lafayette Avenue. Phone and Internet communication has been established and office
furnishings have been delivered.
… Another door will soon be added within the 1st floor hallway to provide unrestricted
access to the offices and the Social Room and added security for the Daycare with the
increased traffic which the new office locations will generate.
… Our local police have apprehended those responsible for the vandalism and arson and
are in the process of preparing for appropriate prosecution to ensure the public‟s safety.
Police and other local authorities have regularly kept our staff informed of their progress.
We can be thankful for their intentional and effective work!
… THANK YOU to parishioners and friends who have supported the staff during these
challenging days through calls, prayers, and volunteer efforts!

Parishioners and Friends,
The day that was created and shared last Sunday, as we celebrated the Feast of Pentecost
and the 25th Anniversary of my ordination to the Holy Ministry, was an incredible time of
worship, fellowship, and joy. The Bishop‟s presence, the musicians‟ and choir‟s offerings,
the special artistic Trinity rendering (and that‟s BIG!), the scrap-book of notes and reflections,
the cards, calls, words and expressions of friendship and appreciation, the beautifully-
prepared refreshments, and the hours and energies which were devoted to bringing it all
together in such a well-coordinated way leaves me so filled with gratitude that finding the
right words is a challenge. Thank you – one and all – for such an outpouring of appreciation
If “home is where the heart is”, then this place is truly home, and has been made such by the
caring and sharing that we have been blessed to experience over these past 25 years. In a
very real way, I could write notes to each of you, as you shared with me, recounting special
moments that touched and enriched my life, supported my family, and cared for us in ways
that added to the joys of life.
Serving as pastor of a flock like Trinity has been far more of a blessing and an honor than a
chore. For surrounding my family and me with such a faithful and thoughtful community we
do, every day, give thanks to our good and gracious Lord.
Thank you, again, for all you have done and for all you have shared. Together, in faith, I
trust we will continue to accomplish faithful ministries, great and small, as the Spirit calls and
empowers our witness.
