Project Concept:
Engineering structures aftect the human lives
economically, ecologically, curturally, socially and
ergonomically. Thus, guarantee that those structures
will work proprely is fundametal.

 Project Concept:
 It is known that expenses with lack of reparation in
 civil structures (bridges, viaducts, water treatment
 system, etc.) costs, in Brazil, billions of dollars.
 Moreover, bad functioning of such structures can
 cause catastrophic failures which can impact in
 environment pollution, high financial cost and also
 risk of lives.

• United States has approximately 600,000 highway bridges that
  are the lifelines of economic commerce. 25% of them are either
  structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. $17 billion
  annual investment is estimated by ASCE to be needed to improve
  current bridge conditions.

Structural Health Monitoring
In this sense Structural Health Monitoring is the process of
identifying the presence and quantifying the extent of damage in a
system based on information extracted from the measured system
response.
There is a lack of companies in Brazil which are able to apply this
technology and de application potential is enormous.

SHM APPLICATION ON PROAMA PROJECT
Project Concept:
One of the most important interventions of the Amazonas
Goverment if favor of the civil population is the PROAMA
project. It consists in a water treatment and
distribution system which will affect about 500K people
(first stage) with capacity to affect 1.000K people
(second stage). Such intervention is highly important to
the life quality improvement of the Amazon population and
will solve historycal issues related to wather supply in
Manaus.

SHM APPLICATION ON PROAMA PROJECT
Project Objective:
In this scenario the VEXSA Engineering propose, in
partership with FRAUNHOFER ENAS, is to promote the
aplication of SHM techniques in order to monitor
the integrity of selected structures of the Amazon
Goverment PROAMA Project. This project was selected
and it is supported by the Amazonas Infrastructure
Office represented by Ms. Waldívia Ferreira Alencar.

Criteria: Bridge extention considering the river
level variation during the year; Transport of heavy
cargo; system complexity level and interaction fuid-
structure (pipeline) and bridge.

• Implantation of a continuous health      monitoring
  system in the selected structures;

• Improvement in the maintenance planning and
  possible future interventions reducing expenses to
  acceptable level within the economics engineering;

• Can be applied as decision making tool to the
  government engineering team;

• Public Security embracing: hospitals water supply
  and vital government systems;

Project General Scope
• Structural and computational analysis trhough
  Finite Elements to the selected structures in order
  to identify the critic measurement points;

• In locus vibration analysis utilizing specified
  transducer equipments. This analysis is fundamental
  in order to determine the critical points through
  the correlation with resutls obtained by FE
  analysis.

• Sesors installation in order      to monitor the
  deformations and displacements    of the selected
  structures;

Project General Scope
• Instllation of temperature sensors for monitoring
  in the pumping points;
• Intallation of signal aquisition system generated
  by the sensors;
• Goverment technical team traning (2 engineers and 1
