Memorandum from Michael
By Michael LaBelle

I have resigned my position for medical and personal reasons. It has been a good seven years
and most of it was fun. You will hear all kinds rumors about why I quit, but the medical and
personal reasons is truth and nothing but the truth.

The fall business meeting will follow on Monday, Oct. 4, from 4:30 to 5:55 p.m. This year we
are having the art show and pie and ice cream on Sunday afternoon October 17.

The leaves are turning and the nights are getting cooler. Get out and enjoy.
Art Show and Sale
By Sandy Gullings

The Canyon Lake Senior Center will host an art show and sale on Sunday Oct. 17, from 1 to 5
p.m. in honor of Myrna Coyle who died last year. Myrna was a long time resident of Rapid City.
She taught school in our area for 65 years and was also a painter. She started the painting class
at the Center many years ago. Her paintings will be on sale that day.

Doug Krogman of Newcastle, WY, will be our featured guest. He is well known for his western
art. You will enjoy meeting him in person and viewing his paintings.

Along with Doug, there will be 30 local artists showing and selling their work. Homemade pie,
ice cream and coffee will be available for $1.

Raffle tickets will be sold on four original paintings. Please bring the family and enjoy the
afternoon. There will be no admission charge. This day is a must!

James Kuehn, South Dakota Hall of Fame Inductee
By Nila Boone

James Kuehn, a member of Canyon Lake Senior Center, recently was one of 13 inductees into
the South Dakota Hall of Fame. Jim, a retired editor of the Rapid City Journal, each month
devotes considerable time at the Center to edit and proofread the two senior centers’ Senior
Citizens News.

An article about Jim and other inductees appeared in the September 9 issue of the Journal if you
would like to read more about his achievements and other community activities.

Congratulations, James Kuehn, on this singular and well deserved honor!
