INTRODUCTION
The use of haemoglobin as the only
indicator (or 'transfusion trigger') may
result in unnecessary administration of
blood products, with their concomitant
risks.
Transfusion requirements should be
based on the patient's physiologic
needs, defined by their oxygen
demand.
