Application

Subject English / Geometry Grades 9-12

Writing: Students write for a variety of purposes and audiences with sophistication and
Instructional complexity appropriate to the grade level.
Focus
Geometric Concepts and Relationships: Students use mathematical concepts to investigate
and interpret geometrical shapes. Students evaluate and communicate the reasoning used in
solving these problems.

Problem-Solving and Mathematical Reasoning: Students apply a variety of problem-solving
strategies to investigate and analyze problems from across the curriculum as well as from
practical applications.

Students will research geometric concepts. Students will identify and define a specific
Performance geometric concept. This may be a shape, theorem, pattern, property, etc.
Students will research poetry forms. Students will identify and define a specific form of
poetry. The following forms are possible suggestions:
Acrostic Blank verse Haiku
Sonnet Narrative Free verse

Students will select a type of poetry and locate and identify sources for three examples.
Students will determine the structure of their poetry choices.

Students will create and illustrate a poem using the identified geometric concept and the
identified poetry form. The final project will include a definition of the geometric concept
and a definition of the poetry form.

The final project may be a poster, powerpoint, booklet, etc. that focuses on the poem created.
