In this period you learned about how the living things are borne and how all of them change
through all its life time, and can you classify the animals depending on their kind of life cycles.
Moreover, now you have the skill of recognize basic needs of the living things and the ways
they use to get that, and finally you learned how to compare some groups of animals taking to
account their general features. In order to answer the following questions, you have to take
into account your class notes and the readings that you have developed in class. You also
should use internet resources if you want it.

Animals that Undergo a Complete Metamorphosis:
 These insects have four stages in their life cycle:
egg: unborn stage.
larva: young stage -- this is when most of the feeding is done. (they usually look like
worms)
pupa: inactive (no feeding) stage between larva and adult stages. (usually well
camouflaged)
adult: final, breeding stage. (they usually grow wings)

Animals that Undergo an Incomplete Metamorphosis:

About 10% of insects go through an incomplete metamorphosis. They do not have a pupa
form -- these include dragonflies, grasshoppers and cockroaches.

These insects have three stages in their life cycle:

egg: unborn stage.
larva: young stage -- this is when most of the feeding is done.
adult: final, breeding stage - including wings.


The following animal has a complete metamorphosis because of:

ANIMALS NEED WATER

Did you know that more than half of your body is water? Every day, water leaves your
body, in your breath, in your sweat, and in your urine. To be healthy, you must drink to
replace lost water.

All kinds of animals need water. Look at the picture, it’s hard to imagine drinking so much
water. Just like people, giraffes must replace water that leaves their bodies. Most animals
get water they need by drinking it. Other animals get water mainly from the foods they
eat.




The giraffe in the picture gets water from a pond.
