XenServer™ and Citrix Essentials for XenServer™ and Hyper-V™
A new version of Citrix XenServer that changes the game by making “enterprise-class, cloud-proven virtualization” free for everyone. A new product line called Citrix Essentials for XenServer and Hyper-V that adds “advanced virtualization management” on top of both the XenServer and Hyper-V virtualization platforms. A new strategic alliance that builds on our 20-year partnership with Microsoft in application and desktop computing and extends it into the datacenter. As part of this partnership, Microsoft will work closely with us to market Citrix Essentials for Hyper-V to all relevant Microsoft field, channel and customers. They will also be adding support for Citrix XenServer to Microsoft System Center. Citrix XenServer A new version of XenServer offers a complete “enterprise-class, cloud-proven virtualization platform” for free, unlimited production use by anyone. Citrix XenServer is the only enterprise-class, cloud-proven virtualization platform that delivers the critical features of live migration and centralized multi-node management for free. Citrix Essentials Citrix Essentials for XenServer and Hyper-V is a new product line that offers a rich set of “advanced virtualization management” capabilities for the Citrix and Microsoft virtualization platforms. The Citrix Essentials product line includes two versions (1) Citrix Essentials for Hyper-V targeted at customers with homogeneous Windows-based virtualization environments, and (2) Citrix Essentials for XenServer is targeted at customers with heterogeneous virtualization environments that include a mix of Windows and Linux.

Pricing:
Citrix XenServer and Essentials for XenServer systems can be upgraded in place via license key, with no additional software installation or downtime required. Pricing is done on a per server basis: Pricing for XenServer will be free (plus optional standard support via existing XenServer programs) Citrix Essentials for XenServer (E4XS) will be priced at $2500 (Enterprise) and $5000 (Platinum) Citrix Essentials for Hyper-V (E4HV) will be priced at $1500 (Enterprise) and $3000 (Platinum) The above pricing is effective April 7, 2009

What about customers who have already purchased XenServer?
Customers who purchased XenServer Standard Edition prior to February 23rd, 2009 and are current on Subscription Advantage will be offered a free license upgrade to Citrix Essentials for XenServer Enterprise Edition. Future support and Subscription Advantage renewals will be based on the applicable rates for Citrix Essentials for XenServer Enterprise Edition. Customers who choose not to accept the free upgrade to Citrix Essentials for XenServer Enterprise Edition can instead opt for the free XenServer download with optional support. They will have until the renewal date of their Subscription Advantage to make a final decision. Customers of XenServer Standard Edition who purchase after February 23rd 2009 can choose a full price upgrade to Citrix Essentials for XenServer, Enterprise Edition or accept the free XenServer download with optional support. We do not recommend selling XenServer Standard between now and the release of the no cost, downloadable version available at the end of March. Customers who have purchased XenServer Enterprise and Platinum licenses and are current on Subscription Advantage as of the April product release date will be eligible to receive Citrix Essentials for XenServer, Enterprise Edition or Platinum Edition respectively.
