TRAINING BULLETIN

Scene Support Operations
This is a 27 hour course being held on the following dates:
July 21, 23, 28, 30 from 19:00 to 22:00
July 25 from 08:00 to 17:00
August 4, 6 from 19:00 to 22:00
Description: The student will be provided with the training to support fire activities that arise before,
during and after fire attack with respect to their exterior only classification. The student will be
exposed to the knowledge and skills pertaining to; Fire, Tool and Scene Safety, Fire Behavior and
Development, PPE and SCBA Practices (excluding donning and doffing of SCBA), Communication
and IMS Principles, Fire Prevention and Investigation Principles, Fire Extinguishers, Hose Practices
(excluding fire advancement and attack), Water Supply, Nozzles and Fire Streams, Ground Ladder
Operations, Ropes and Knots. The course is derived from the Fire Fighter 1 curriculum.
Target audience: Fire department personnel who, for whatever reason,
will not be classified as an interior structural firefighter.
Prerequisites: Prior to attending class, students must have The Firefighter’s Handbook – Essentials
of Firefighting and Emergency Response, New York Edition Thompson Delmar Learning book. This
can be purchased at the NY State Fire Academy Book store. www.fireacademyfsa.com
Registration: Pre-registration is mandatory. Register through your chief or training officer.
Chief's and training officer's can register their personnel at;
http://emergencyservices.westchestergov.com/. Each student must present a NYS Training Authorization
Letter to the instructor. The NYS Training Authorization Letter and the DES Permission Form can be
accessed and downloaded when registering. Walk-ins are not permitted. Class size is limited to Twenty
Five (25) students.
Venue: Westchester County DES Training Center, 4 Dana Rd. – Grasslands Campus, Valhalla, New
York. All students are to park in the lot adjacent to the Support Services Building located at 35
Walker Road. (There is a stairway linking the parking lot directly to the training campus.) For

Full PPE will be required.
Completion of this class does not qualify you to work as an Interior Firefighter
New York State Authorization form is MANDATORY for Admission to class
