There will be games for players at all levels, along with entertainment, lectures and prizes. You don’t even need to bring a partner—game organizers will match you up with a compatible player. Sponsored by the Memphis unit of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), the tournament will be held Friday-Sunday, Jan. 28-30, in the convention center of the hotel at 111 Main St. Games begin at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sunday features a game for teams of four. The fee to play is only $6 per game for ACBL members and $8 for non-members. Games will be played duplicate style, meaning that pairs are scored on how well they do on each hand compared to other pairs playing the same duplicated hands. “We would love to see new faces at our tournament, especially those new to duplicate,” said tournament chair Pat Bridgeplayer. “Bridge is bridge, regardless of the type of scoring used. This is a great opportunity to share the game we all love with new friends and partners from our area.”

The tournament will include a free lecture by world champion and bridge columnist Charles Goren at 9 a.m. Saturday. Founded in 1937, the ACBL is the world’s largest bridge organization. The league’s 160,000 members come together for more than 2.5 million tables of play each year at 3,200 clubs and 1,100 tournaments throughout North America.
