CHARACTERS IN THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING

Isildur – oldest son of Elendil. When his father is killed trying to defeat Sauron, Isildur
cuts off the hand of Sauron and takes possession of the Ring.

Elrond – elf who founded Rivendell. Is present in the battle to defeat Sauron. Advises
Isildur to destroy the Ring in Moria. He married the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn.
He is the father of Arwen. Elrond also brought up Aragorn (Strider)

Bilbo – Hobbit who discovered the Ring on his journey recorded in The Hobbit. Leaves
the Ring to his nephew, Frodo.

Gollum – a River person who finds the Ring after Isildur loses it. The Ring brought him
unnaturally long life. For five hundred years it poisoned his mind.

Gandalf the Grey – a good wizard who helps the

Frodo – Hobbit who inherits the Ring that must be destroyed.

Sam – Frodo’s friend and gardener

Merry – Frodo’s friend.

Pippin – Frodo’s friend.

Strider (Aragorn) – a Human, mortal, Ranger with special healing powers. Heir to
Isildur’s throne in Gondor, has long life.

Leggolas – Elf who will accompany the Fellowship on their Quest.

Gimli – Dwarf who will accompany the Fellowship on their Quest.

Boromir – Mortal Human from Gondor who will accompany the Fellowship on their
Quest.

Gondor – land of Isildur – humans.

Sauron – the dark Lord of Mordor.

Mordor – land of Sauron, the dark Lord.

Saruman – chief of Gandalf’s order.

Isengard – the stronghold of the wizard, Saruman.

Galadriel – Elven queen who has one of the 3 Elf rings.

Celeborn – Elven king, married to Galadriel.
