GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. Age of Participants:
    Junior (age 13 and younger)
    Senior (Age 14 or older)
2. Participation Guidelines:
    A member who has been a clock trophy winner of any one class in 2010 is not eligible to participate in the
      same class for 2011.
    No more than one participant in any one class will be allowed per county
    No one individual may participate in more than one class.
3. Type of Evaluation:
    Participants will have a personal interview evaluation with a judge.
    All participants in the Creative Arts projects (J-4 and J-5) will complete a written skills evaluation. This
       score will be combined with the interview score to determine the top 20% in each class.
    All participants in Scrapbooking (J-6, J-7, J-8, and J-9) and Cake Decorating (J-10, J-11) will complete a
       written and hands-on skill evaluation. This score will be combined with the interview score to determine
       the top 20% in each class.
    Judges will evaluate participants in Creative Arts (J-4, J-5) on the following basis (also see sample score
       sheet):
            o Knowledge of Design elements
            o Knowledge of Design Principles
            o Quality of Technique and workmanship
    Judges will evaluate participants in Scrapbooking (J-6, J-7, J-8, and J-9) on the following basis (also see
       sample score sheet):
            o Quality of Oral Presentation
            o Overall Appearance of Scrapbook
            o Clarity of Scrapbook
            o Project Analysis (project book completion and records) – classes J-8 and J-9 must demonstrate
                completion of scrapbooking project book along with self-determined project records
    Judges will evaluate participants in Cake Decorating (J-10, J-11) on the following basis (also see sample
       score sheet):
            o Quality of Oral Presentation
            o Overall Appearance of Scrapbook
            o Clarity of Scrapbook
            o Project Analysis (project book completion and records) – participants must complete self-
                determined project guidelines (including records page and display board)
                      Information from the Cake Decorating self-determined supplement will be used in the
                          evaluation process
4. Participant to bring:
    Completed registration card signed by County 4-H Educator.
    Completed project book (see judging evaluation guide above)
    A display representing their learning experience of the current project. The display should be one used
       either at their local 4-H judging or at their county fair.

AWARDS
1. Each participant will receive a participation award sponsored by The Ohio State Fair.
2. "Outstanding of the Day" ribbons, sponsored by The Ohio State Fair will be awarded to the top 20% of each
   class.
3. A clock trophy will be presented to the selected winner in each class, 2010 awards were sponsored by
   Bridget Weigly and Jean Bell.
4. Awards will be announced at 4:00 p.m.

Dear 2011 4-H Creative Arts Show Participant:

Congratulations! You have been selected to represent your county at the State Fair 4-H Creative Arts Day,
Thursday, July 28 at the time indicated on the enclosed card. This is an honor of which you can be very proud.

Enclosed is a registration card and a map to the fairgrounds. You should register at the time and place indicated
on the registration card. The 4-H assistants will show you where to set up your materials.

You should bring the following with you:
- A completed registration card
- One "project" (classes J-6 thru J-11, includes scrapbook (classes J-6, J-7, J-8, J-9) or decorated
   cake/cupcake (classes J-10, J-11)) or piece of art (classes J-4 & J-5), made as a part of your 4-H project to
   use during the interview with the judge to show how well you can apply the skills taught in your project area.
- Creative Arts projects may utilize any of the following art media: clay-dough, fiber-fabric, glass-metal, leather,
   natural items, paper, wood-plastic, chalk, carbon, pigment or other art media of the participant choice.
- Cake Decorating participants may decorate an actual cake or cupcake, or may use a Styrofoam base for the
   cake decorated. (classes J-10, J-11)
- Participants in class J-8, J-9, J-10, and J-11 must bring a display board that meets the specifications of the
   Self-Determined guidelines and completed self-determined project records.
- Completed project book.
- Your project or piece of art will be placed on display until winners are announced at 4:00 p.m.

You will be interviewed by a professional judge. During that time, you will be evaluated on your knowledge, skill,
and understanding of the elements and knowledge of the project area and how well you applied them in your
project. Participants in Creative Arts (J-4, J-5) will complete a written skills evaluation based on information from
the Art as an Expression project book. Juniors (J-4) will answer questions related to the elements of design.
Seniors (J-5) will answer questions related to the elements and principles of design. Participants in scrapbooking
(J-6, J-7, J-8, J-9) will complete a written and hands-on skill evaluation based on the information presented in the
Scrapbooking project book. Cake Decorating participants (J-10, J-11) will complete a written and hands-on skill
evaluation based on the information presented in the Cake Decorating self-determined supplemental guide. All
participants must complete the skills section as the score is added to the interview score to determine the top
20% in each class.

All projects will be kept on display until the conclusion of the awards ceremony at 4:00pm. If you choose not to put
your project on display, this may affect your opportunity to receive the clock trophy. All projects on display are
monitored by State 4-H Ambassadors until the conclusion of the awards ceremony. At the conclusion of the
awards ceremony, the State 4-H program assumes no responsibility for your project.

Outstanding of the Day Winners and Clock trophy winners will be announced beginning at 4:00 p.m. Best wishes!
