                                         John 10: 1

Text Scripture:

John 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the
sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

 You may think my sermon title today – well – a little strange
 Some of you may be cringing a little and thinking – why is he preaching a
         political sermon at our church?
 And while I am going to speak a little about illegal immigration in America – it is
not the main focus of my sermon
    So hang with me!

 Let me start by saying I am in no way opposed to “legal” immigration into the
         United States.
 I am opposed to “illegal” immigration
 As I hear the debates rage, I wonder: What part of ILLEGAL don‟t they

What impact does illegal immigration have on the United States today?

 There are 21,322,593 illegal immigrants in the United States (If they know how
many there is, why don‟t they deport them?)
 23 billion dollars wired to Mexico by illegal immigrants since January 2006
 220 billion dollars wired to Latin America since 2001
 Cost of social services for illegal immigrants since 1996 397 billion dollars
 4,242,013 is the number of children of illegal immigrants in public school in the
         United States
    Cost of students K-12 since 1996 – almost 14 billion dollars
 Illegal immigrants in prison: 355,767
 Cost of incarcerations for illegal immigrants: almost 1.5 billion dollars since 2001
    Illegal immigrant fugitives: 668,546
    Anchor babies born since 2002: 1,884,807
 Skilled jobs taken by illegal immigrants: 10,323,427
 According to World Net Daily, Based on a one-year in-depth study, a researcher
Deborah Schurman-Kauflin estimates there are about 240,000 illegal immigrant
sex offenders in the United States who have had an average of four victims each.
 "This translates to 93 sex offenders and 12 serial sexual offenders coming across
U.S. borders illegally per day," she says.

 Twelve Americans are murdered every day by illegal aliens, according to
statistics released by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. If those numbers are correct, it
translates to 4,380 Americans murdered annually by illegal aliens. That's 21,900
       since Sept. 11, 2001.

This paints a grim picture of how illegal immigration is tearing apart the fabric of society,
doesn‟t it?

Again, I‟m sure you are wondering where in the world I‟m going with this

Hang on!

 I would have you know today that there is a form of illegal immigration occurring
in America today, and across the world for that matter, that is far worse, far more
destructive, and of far more serious consequence than the illegal immigrants that
       fill America today.

 The illegal immigrants I‟m speaking of aren‟t “out there” somewhere in the world
rather; they are here in our pulpits and pews.
 We meet with them every Sunday and Wednesday
 We meet them on our jobs
 We meet them in our culture

 They are the Spiritually Illegal Immigrants!

 It shall be my intent today to compare the characteristics of Spiritual illegal
       immigrants with physical illegal immigrants:

 Today I want to pose this question to you: Are there any illegal immigrants in
       this church?

 To help you discover the answer to this question, I want to examine 3
       truths about Spiritually Illegal Immigrants:

1: They Have Entered in an Unauthorized Manner

These are they who attempt to enter the kingdom of God by means and ways He does not

The “key question” that the FAITH Evangelistic Strategy asks, “In your personal opinion,
what does it take for a person to go to heaven?”

People give many varied answers to that question:

 Treat people like you want to be treated

    Attend church
    Be baptized
    Believe in God
 Take care of your family
 Do more good deeds than bad
 Be a member of a particular religion or denomination
    Read your Bible
 Live by a good moral code: Don‟t dink, cuss lie, beat your wife and kids, or run
       around on your spouse
 Be true to whomever your god is – it doesn‟t really matter what you believe just
as long as you are sincere
 All religions lead to heaven

And while all these may be noble – none will take you to heaven.

There is one-way, and one-way only to heaven: John 3:7 Marvel not that I said
unto thee, Ye must be born again.

What does this mean? Very simply, there must have come a time in your life that you,
under the convicting power of the Holy Spirit (Not when you decided-you
have to be invited) (No man cometh to the Father except the Spirit draws

   1. Came to Jesus in a very personal way, admitting you‟re a sinner
   2. Believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He dies on a cross to pay for
      your sins
   3. Committed your life to Him

And I‟m here today to tell you that if you cannot remember a time when you, through
conviction and repentance, invited Jesus into your life as your personal Lord and Savior,
then chances are very good you‟re a Spiritually Illegal Immigrant!

You are professing and presenting that which you do not possess

And while you may have everybody else fooled - there are 2 people who aren‟t fooled:
You and God!

Lady who told the pastor she had “always been a Christian”

    Wednesday night Bible
 Pastor teaching on witnessing and how to lead somebody to Jesus
 Lady spoke up at the end and told the pastor she had always been a Christian

 He politely told her that no, there must have been a time when she invited Christ
       into her life.
 She responded that no – she had always been a Christian
 Again, he told her no, she must have invited Christ into her life. He even
suggested that maybe it was at her baptism.
 She insisted, no, she had always been a Christian
 Then she added: My grandparents were members of this church, my parents were
members of this church, and I started attending before I was ever born – I HAVE

 I submit to you today this lady was a Spiritually Illegal Immigrant

I wonder, are there any Spiritually Illegal Immigrants in this church?

1: They Have Entered in an Unauthorized Manner

2: Their Service is Unprofitable

Many argue that the services Illegal Immigrants perform are a boon to our economy.
I submit that when the total cost of their presence is calculated it is a losing proposition!

Many churches knowingly allow Spiritually Illegal immigrants to hold offices in their
churches, thinking they cannot afford to operate without them:

 Many are filling pulpits (They won‟t preach the unadulterated Word of God)
 Many sit on deacon boards (Told my wife – when I die I want you to make ever
deacon that ever gave me a hard time to be a pallbearer – AND MAKE THEM
       TOTE ME A MILE!!!)
    Many sing (It‟s show!)
 Many teach (A social gospel)
 Many are the “owner operators” of the church (It doesn‟t say church here until I
       say it says church here!)
 Many are community leaders (Community status dictates church status)
 Many are big tithers (Lead the church by the purse strings)

The church thinks it cannot do without them

But I submit to you today that the high cost of ungodly leaders (Spiritually Illegal
Immigrants) makes the church unprofitable in all ways!

 Many church splits are caused by Spiritually Illegal Immigrants who hold
positions of Spiritual authority in the local church.
 But I‟m here today to tell you that if the Spirit of the Living God does not dwell
within you – you CANNOT repeat CANNOT lead others in a Spiritual way!
 You will be a source of division and contention in God‟s house!

 And I submit to you today that we need 1 of 2 things in churches today:

       1. Blessed addition
       2. Blessed subtraction

Revival occurs either way!!!

1: They Have Entered in an Unauthorized Manner
2: Their Service is Unprofitable

3: Their Appointment with the Head of Immigration is Unavoidable

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that
shall he also reap.

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom
of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and
in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work

*How sad it would be to spend a lifetime in service to the Lord, only to stand before the
Great Immigration Officer of the Ages, on judgment day, and hear Him say: YOU DID

Deportation is real!!!

Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face
the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened:
and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of
those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the
dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Many would argue that a loving God would not send anybody to hell
And I say to that – yes – you‟re right – a LOVING God wouldn‟t – but a JUST God has
no choice!!!

As I close this sermon today, I have given you three truths about Spiritually Illegal

1: They Have Entered in an Unauthorized Manner
2: Their Service is Unprofitable
3: Their Appointment with the Head of Immigration is Unavoidable

You may say: Well, your sermon has been cute – but you don‟t know anything about
what you‟re talking about.

I beg your pardon!

I was a Spiritually Illegal Immigrant for a long time

 I went to church 9 months before I was born
 I was taken to church every Sunday
    I knew the lingo
 I went to the altar and had the preacher pray for me
    I was baptized
 I knew how to do church
 But I was as lost as Job‟s Turkey – on my way to hell in the fast lane with the
pedal to the metal – AND I KNEW IT!!!

 I was part of the house band for one of the nightclubs in LaGrange
    Bass amplifier tore up
 We were going to practice on a Sunday afternoon
 Asked Steve Matthews if I could borrow his
 He said yes – if I would go to church with him that night
 I agreed – never intending to keep the bargain
 He and his brothers drove up in the yard to pick me up
 Eating a bowl of Total cereal with daddy
    Said I wasn‟t going
 He told me it was time I learned to be a man of my word
 Went to church just to keep a deal
    Sat there mad
 Sister Aurie Carr – shouting
 Preacher – 3 people here tonight lost – on your way to hell

I close this sermon today with a simple question: If I could pull the records – would I
find that you are Spiritually „legal” or “illegal?”

It‟s not a hope so, think so, or maybe so salvation – IT‟S A KNOW SO SALVATION!!!
