NSLP Job Description Job Title: Vice President of Marketing Company: NSLP Department: Marketing Reports To: President/CEO Grade/Salary Level: Officer FLSA Status: Exempt (Executive) Approved By: Randy Heesacker Approved Date: 2/10/2011 The Vice President of Marketing is a key position reporting to the President/CEO of NSLP and is responsible for recommending and driving the brand positioning, marketing strategy and product development/management lifecycle for the organization in an effort to generate and maintain client relationships. This leadership position is pivotal to the company’s success and must personify the organization's mission, vision and values by demonstrating: innovation, excellence, collaboration, respect, commitment to community, and ownership. As a member of the organization's management team, performance includes: leadership, communication, mentoring, and empowering a team to create break-through marketing and product initiatives that propel the company towards success. POSITION SUMMARY The Vice President of Marketing is accountable for NSLP’s over-all branding, marketing, product development, market research, public relations, and implementation of those disciplines. This position collaborates closely with the President/CEO, Vice President of Business Development, and other cross- functional experts to ensure flawless implementation of all sales and marketing initiatives. Specific responsibilities include: corporate planning, strategic direction and tactical delivery of promotion and advertising, market research, hiring, directing external resources necessary to carry-out marketing initiatives, and overseeing the day-to-day management of marketing, public relations, and product development staff. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Serves as Vice President of Marketing for the company, providing expert direction and counsel for branding, marketing, public relations, product development/management, and sales support. 2. Work cross-functionally to gain buy-in and support to develop the annual marketing plan to achieve corporate goals. 3. Provides leadership in directing the design, development, and implementation of products and service lines. 4. Leads the company’s research agenda and competitive intelligence analysis to successfully gain insight and understanding into market dynamics and customer needs. 5. Creates an institutional and system-wide marketing reporting function that can track, measure, and analyze performance. 6. Ensures all marketing initiatives support marketing plan objectives and are an effective expenditure of resources. 7. Provides input and support in the messaging of joint ventures, affiliations, and partnership arrangements. 8. Provides marketing expertise to the company by building, developing, and managing a marketing team capable of carrying out the necessary marketing strategies and tactics. 9. Participates fully in activities related to the higher education industry in general and the marketing profession in particular. 10. Collaborate with President/CEO to articulate the company’s current and future strategies. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises marketing professionals and support staff. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with NSLP’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing and monitoring work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Directs and manages external resources to ensure commitments, contracts, and budgets are managed carefully on behalf of the organization QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or a related discipline required. Have a minimum of 10 years of experience and a demonstrated track record of accomplishments in marketing, planning, and product development. Must have strong interpersonal skills, maturity, good judgment, and be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals. Broad functional experience in areas of strategic planning, marketing, product development/management, direct marketing, online marketing, business and market development, market research, public relations, and promotions/advertising. LANGUAGE SKILLS Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to effectively communicate with a wide array of individuals Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to customers, management, public groups, and boards of directors REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Have a valid driver’s license. Vehicle Classification This position is classified as a Category II driver as described in the company Vehicle Policy. Must provide own transportation and insurance in compliance with company standards.
