Dear Dr Azam,

Welcome to the RSSA. Let me just answer your points one by one.

We don't currently issue certificates to Fellows. The practise was apparently discontinued quite
some time ago.

Our new treasurer has just taken over and he will be in touch with you about your subscription in
due course. Please don't be concerned if this takes a week or two, or even more as he is
updating the membership database which will take some time. I will let him know that you have
inquired.

Thank you so much for your kindness in offering to send a copy of your research paper but the
RSSA does not have the facility for receiving Fellows' papers.

If you go to www.dynamicearth.co.uk I'm sure you'll find all the information you need on Dynamic Earth.

My I wish you every success in your venture.
Best wishes

Jane Ridder-Patrick

RSSA secretary

Dear Jane,

I'd like to thank RSSA for electing me as Fellow
at its last meeting. When do I receive the Certificate, and
when do I pay the subscription?

Secondly, I'm currently working on a research
paper entitled, "Science v Religion?" : An Islamic
Perspective. Of course, I will send the RSSA a copy of
this research once it's completed. But if you can send me
further details, by post or e-mail, about the President's
'Dynamic Earth' project [I did enjoy Dr Stuart's very
interesting lecture], I'll include information in my paper.

                         Best wishes,

                                Dr Umar Azam

Subject: POEM: 'THE BLESSING OF SPRING'

                                  THE BLESSING OF SPRING

The season of spring is upon us once more,
                               Refreshing hope with sights galore!
                            Blossoming daffodils and emerging buds,
                          Productive fields and awakening woods!

In the still-bare trees the cuckoo sings,
The herald of spring, the wanton king!
If only he knew how significant his call,
A yardstick of renewal, acknowledged by all!

                           Milder cold and invigorating smells,
                           Chicks emerging from brittle shells!
With lengthening days the darkness yields,
And seasonal bunnies congregate in fields!

For many a creature the hibernation ends,
And every busy bird to its nesting tends!
                             Mellow breeze and clearing haze,
Surely theadvent of more pleasant days!

Sporadic rain, the amassed sky breaches,
And thereby the moisture the vegetation reaches.
Pitter-patter raindrops thud to the ground
And abundant flora shall soon abound!

                          And in the pastures the lambing begins;
Each hopeful farmer praying for twins!
Very soon we see, the mother sheep stare,
Bestowing upon lambs, novel motherly care!

The frisky lambs play, 'Chase me now!'
But all too soon they are famished, oh how!
They suckle their mothers with dramatic gestures,
Then sit contentedly in the lime-green pastures!

One season in four will new life bring,
So glorified be God, The Maker of Spring!

Dear Fellow,

Below is a further notice of the next RSSA meeting. I do hope that you, and any guests you would

"Surviving the Scottish Biting Midge"
Dr Alison Blackwell
Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine
University of Edinburgh
In the Wolfson Suite, Ground Floor
Edinburgh University Library
George Square, Edinburgh
On Monday 24th May 2004, at 7 pm
Although biting midges have a worldwide distribution, there is nowhere
quite like Scotland in terms of the havoc that these tiny insects can
cause. Midges have been around for millions of years and still there is
no effective means of control. In Scotland during the 1940's, a
Government-funded 'Midge Control Unit' was set up at the University of
Edinburgh, headed by Professor Doug Kettle. The team involved
produced a wealth of data on the ecology and biology of midges in
Scotland, although failed to provide any solutions to their control.
Recently, we have been taking a fresh look at how midges interact with
their environment, in an attempt to identify chinks in the midge's armour
where novel interventions could be aimed in an attempt to reduce the
nuisance caused to both man and animals. This has included the
identification of naturally-occurring repellents, in addition to the cocktail
of smells usually used by a midge to find a bloodmeal; incorporated into
a novel trapping system (the 'Midgeater'), capable of collecting >1
million midges in a single day. This talk will outline the research we
have been involved with and attempt to outline a 'survival guide' for
coping with these insects in Scotland

                                       Fish in the Sea

They say there are many fish in the sea,
                                     But I have chosen you!
This day you are standing in front of me,
                                    So wishes do come true!

You don't look like a fish to me,
You look like a pretty girl!
And when I gaze at your good looks,
My mind is in a frenzied whirl!

When your eyes meet mine there's a flash of light,
                                   That's hard to understand!
I gasp for breath and my heart beats fast,
Your love is now in demand!

When your fingers run right through my hair,
Time should never be at its end.
And when I'm held in your soft embrace,
                                  It's a snowball-type of trend!

You are now mine in holy matrimony,
This day I give thanks to my Lord!
Inconceivable is life without you now,
Your love I shall ever applaud!

We have all our lives in front of us,
                                   I'm pleased to contemplate.
Just a single day with you is bliss,
So a life sentence is just great!
Now that you are my very own,
I don't care for the sea.
Just you stay with me from now,
               That is my heartfelt plea!

Subject: POEM SUBMISSION

The Worldly End

Now the body has withered, the hair is grey;
But the mind is very much alert.
I am no longer young, I know,
But my conscience is still awfully hurt!
The average span of human life, they say,
Is seventy years or so.
I have exceeded my fare, I know,
But where did the duration go?
I don't seem to have tarried so long,
And the past is all a vague dream.
Eternal life is sure to follow, I know,
And that time-span is somewhat extreme!
Deep within me my soul is content,
I don't fear the angel of death.
He is sure to come, I know,
But he is welcome to take my breath!
I have believed and worked the best deeds,
Praise be to god who has mercifully guided.
Had I been one of the rebellious, I know,
The fire of hell is for the deluded!

                                   'ASK DR AZAM':
The show where pupils fire questions at Dr Azam, Author
                          & Scholar

 DR AZAM IS IN THE STUDIO AT A DESK/TABLE
              30 SCHOOLCHILDREN [15 BOYS, 15 GIRLS], WEARING
FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM, ARE ALSO IN THE STUDIO
 EACH PUPIL IS IN YEAR 11 AND STUDYING GCSE R.E.
AND HAS BEEN NOMINATED BY HIS/HER SCHOOL TO
                                  PARTICIPATE
 PUPILS ARE FROM VARIOUS SOCIAL BACKGROUNDS
                           AND TYPES OF SCHOOL
 A REFEREE, WHOSE JOB IS TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE TIME,
PROBE ETC. HELPS TO KEEP THINGS RUNNING SMOOTHLY
EACH PUPIL ASKS DR AZAM A QUESTION ABOUT MUSLIMS IN
             
               BRITAIN/ISLAM [NO POLITICAL QUESTIONS ALLOWED]
 DURING DR AZAM'S ANSWER, KEY TECHNICAL TERMS APPEAR ON THE
SCREEN AS LEARNING AIDS E.G. 'RISHTA' [ARRANGED MARRIAGE]
 ONE PROGRAMME WOULD INVITE PUPILS FROM VARIOUS PARTS OF
THE COUNTRY; A SERIES OF PROGRAMMES WOULD INVITE PUPILS
FROM LOCAL AREAS E.G. LONDON, YORKSHIRE, MIDLANDS ETC.

YOUNG PEOPLE, TEACHERS AND PARENTS OF SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN
WOULD WATCH THIS PROGRAMME, AS WELL AS MEMBERS OF ETHNIC
                          MINORITY GROUPS.

THEY WOULD WATCH IT TO FIND MORE ABOUT THE BELIEFS, CULTURE AND
VALUES OF MUSLIMS IN BRITAIN AND APPRECIATE THAT THERE IS FAR
MORE TO ISLAM THAN JUST POLITICS, INTERNATIONAL TERRORIST
GROUPS ETC. RATINGS WILL BE HIGH BECAUSE VIEWERS WILL BE
INTERESTED IN DR AZAM'S DYNAMIC PERSONALITY AND
ENTHUSIASM. THEY WILL ENJOY PUPILS' ASKING OF QUESTIONS AND DR
AZAM'S SKILL IN ANSWERING THESE IN AN INTERESTING WAY AND WITH A
                            TOUCH OF HUMOUR.

PERHAPS BBC 2 WOULD BE THE BEST CHANNEL TO BROADCAST THIS SHOW
BECAUSE, ACCORDING TO THE CHANNEL REQUIREMENTS ON THE
'COMMISSIONING' WEBSITE, BBC 2 IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR 'A NEW IDEA'
OR 'NEW SUBJECT' WHICH IS ALSO 'SOMETHING ENJOYABLE.

8th Meeting and AGM of the 183rd Session (2003-2004)

Monitoring Earthquakes in the UK
Dr Roger Musson
British Geological Survey, Edinburgh

In the Wolfson Suite, Ground Floor
Edinburgh University Library
George Square, Edinburgh
On Monday 18th October 2004, at 7 pm

People in the UK tend not to think of this country as subject to
earthquakes. Such earthquakes as do occur (discounting minor ones that
 are
hardly felt and cause no damage) are infrequent and quickly forgotten.
 No
one has been killed by a British earthquake since 1940. Yet this is
 partly
a matter of luck. The largest British earthquakes in the last hundred
years or so have mostly been in rural locations, and typically 15-20 km
deep. As a result, though windows may be rattled over a wide area,
 there
is usually very little damage. This luck may not continue; even a
 moderate
earthquake could do significant damage if it occurred at shallow depth
under a major city; London, Birmingham, Manchester, Swansea and Glasgow
are among the potential locations where such a thing could happen. As a
result, it is important to keep a close eye on earthquakes, even in a
country like Britain. This talk will give an insight into the seismic
monitoring operations of the British Geological Survey, the patterns of
earthquake activity revealed, and how historical research turns out to
 be
important when it comes to advising engineers about the risk from
 future
earthquakes in the UK.

      A message from
sam_abc123uk@yahoo.co.uk:
 Dear Brother/Sister, Asalamu
          Alaykum,

I'd like to invite you to join the
     'Muslim-Civilisation' group.
    'Muslim-Civilisation' is a list
       which offers members
information about the formation
    of Civilisation under Muslim
   Patronage. We will deal with
  diverse subjects including the
   development of Philosophy,
Mathematics and Science to the
early development of Art, poetry
        and Architecture. The
    information will be provided
    through a wide selection of
   sources both on- and off-line
and posted to the group by
myself, so that all can share in
 information about our heritage.
The file section of the group will
  be periodically added to, with
  articles about famous Muslim
scientists and philosophers who
  developed Human-science to
  great heights during the 1000-
  years of the European 'dark-
age'. A little known fact that
     many non-muslim do not
       appreciate is that the
renaissance that Europe under-
went in the 16th Century was
made possible only through the
 achievements centuries before
  by Muslim Philosophers and
   Scientists. This group was
formed out of the desire to set
     the record straight and to
 provide information to Muslims
that will enable them to engage
    in dialogue with their non-
 muslim friends and colleagues
         about the subject.

  If this subject matter interests
   you or you’re simply curious
 then subscribe to the ‘muslim-
civilization’ group as soon as is
  convenient. Bear in mind that
you will receive no more than
one short email a day, plus
notices if new files are uploaded
to the group website. So you
don't have to worry about your
      Inbox being flooded with
    dozens of messages daily.
     Furthermore only I will be
posting to the group so if you
       wish to contribute with
information or short pieces you
write then you can send them to
me and I will find an appropriate
opportunity to send it to the
               group.

I hope you will find the group
 informative and useful to you.

   Best Regards, Wasalam,
            Sarmad.

WA LAIKUM SALAM,

THANKS FOR SIGNING MY GUESTBOOK.

I'M AFRAID I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE BOOKS YOU
MENTION. BUT I WOULD THINK THAT, TO PURCHASE
THEM, YOU WOULD NEED TO WRITE TO, OR VISIT THE
SAUDI EMBASSY IN YOUR COUNTRY AND GET FROM
THEM A LIST OF SPECIALIST PUBLISHERS IN THE
MIDDLE EAST. YOU WOULD THEN CONTACT THESE
PUBLISHERS DIRECTLY. EVEN IF THE ARE NOT
THEMSELVES THE PUBLISHERS OF THE BOOKS YOU
MENTION, THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL YOU WHO IS.

THE TAWEEZ ON MY SITE HAVE BEEN SCANNED, SO I
CANNOT ADJUST THEM. THEY ARE THE ACTUAL SIZE
AS IN THE BOOK, 'ROOHANI TAWEEZAAT', PUBLISHED
BY SHABBIR BRS. OF LAHORE, PAKISTAN.

THESE SAME PUBLISHERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO DIRECT
YOU TO A 'TRUE MASTER'.

PLEASE CONTACT ME AGAIN IF YOU NEED FURTHER
