           EUROPEAN RIVER CRUISE
       on RHINE, MAIN, DANUBE RIVERS
                         (including the Main-Danube Canal) from

THE ATLANTIC TO THE BLACK SEA
                      May 16 – June 12, 2009
River cruising with Special Travel International aboard the Amadeus Princess

“Discovering Europe by rivers – travel takes on a new dimension”
As our floating hotel glides up and down rivers, we are free of road traffic jams, hustle and bustle of busy
highways – and we are not packing and unpacking from one city to the next! A tranquil and wonderful way
to experience Europe!
From famous, historic cities through wonderful countryside and to picturesque villages – our AMADEUS PRINCESS
takes us right into the heart of places!
And our PRINCESS is not just any hotel … it is one of Europe’s finest river vessels. Built in 2006 she is designed
to make you enjoy your holiday to the fullest. All outside cabins with mostly full size windows (actually French
balconies in 80% of the cabins), modern bathrooms and all the features you expect from a well appointed hotel
room. The common areas are perfectly designed – a restaurant which will delight you with wonderful meals,
2 bars from where you can watch the river flow or relax over your favourite drink while enjoying the on board
music group, and of course a wellness area, library and the wonderful sundeck from where you can enjoy the
scenery…
The atmosphere during our river cruise is one of familiarity as we travel with a group of around 100 – 120
– and we get to know each other and make new friends aboard or during some of the great excursions
planned on our trip.
These land excursions vary from walking tours to bus tours and bring you the history of the areas we are
traveling through. Sometimes the Princess stays docked while we are out on a trip, sometimes she keeps
moving and we “catch up a few miles down the road” … so you have choices: join the tour, do your own
exploring or stay aboard and enjoy the cruising…
Sometimes we travel during the day, sometimes at night – when we dock for the night, you can hit the local
bars of course …the itinerary is designed for you to see the important sites along the way …
The crew is going to make every effort to make you feel at home – and by the end of the trip you will find it
tough to say good-bye to them.
There are a few great itineraries to choose: cruise only or cruise/tour combinations. The Amsterdam – Vienna
portion of the trip with many great cities, villages, castles and locks along the Main and Main Danube Canal
or the Vienna – Black Sea section with the might of the Danube River traveling through countries like Slovakia,
Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania which are still “more unknown” to the eyes of the Westerners …
You will be amazed by the wonderful experiences along the way as we have included some special folklore
evenings aboard the ship and you will be fascinated by the places we see along the way.
And on our cruise we have a few special guest speakers and lecturers – so you can get even more in depth
information on history of the countries we pass through or you might want to take up sketching along the way
and gather some tips from our on board artists, joining us from Vienna to the Black Sea.
And of course the STI staff which will be on board the ship, will make sure that you are well looked after – and
that your vacation will be worry-free.
We are sure that you will fall in love with river cruising and with the programs we have designed for you and are
looking forward to welcoming you aboard

     see you on board!

           MS AMADEUS PRINCESS

The AMADEUS fleet’s newest vessel sets new standards in European river cruising.
The AMADEUS PRINCESS is nothing other than a floating luxury hotel, impressing its passengers from the
moment they step on board. There’s the imposing reception area, the bright and airy cabins and suites
(thanks to the vast panoramic windows in more than 80% of all cabins) offering splendid views of the passing
scenery, and the very large Princess Suites (30 sq. m.), which, more than any other single feature, underline the
outstanding qualities of the PRINCESS.
Allow this grand vessel to lure you away from normality - perhaps by inducing you to read an absorbing book in
a chaise lounge on the sun deck, or to sample a relaxing herbal bath in the new spa facilities.
Get to see fascinating countries and meet interesting people over a convivial cup of coffee in the
AMADEUS Club or, while practising your golf on the putting green on the sun deck.
No wish will remain unfulfilled for long when you are aboard the AMADEUS PRINCESS.

                                    OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS
On the following pages you have the explanations regarding the shore excursions and docking times of
the ship – please keep in mind that these may be changed locally due to the Captain’s decision, based on
circumstances like weather or times assigned to pass through locks etc…
The explanations will hopefully help you in deciding which excursions are right for you !!!
The rates are in EUROS and you may also choose to book them once on the ship (BUT: some of them have
to be booked right upon arrival and it makes for a hectic start of the cruise if too many take that route….
Best is to pre-book the ones you will take for sure anyway – and if you are not sure about a couple, book
these locally then on the ship upon arrival).
We will send you a note at the beginning of 2009 – reminding you about all these shore excursions (at
that time the rates will also be set for the ones which show as TBA yet) – and you may then pre-book and
pay (at a rate of $1.50 per 1 Euro) them (we will add them to your invoice at that stage) – ensuring that
you will be “on the excursion” as some of them might not be available locally anymore (sold out – due to
 bus sizes etc).

June 02, Tue O-25: GODOLLO CASTLE Euro 30.-
Castle Gödöllö, which is about 30 km from Budapest, was built in the 18th century. In the era of the imperial monarchy it became a symbol of Empress
Elisabeth, who was nick-named ‘Sissi’ and much loved by the Hungarians. Nestling in an enormous park this is the largest complex of Baroque buildings in
Hungary and attractive to everyone – not just lovers of Baroque. You can go around rooms that have been carefully restored in recent years, and also see the
former stables. There will be time for some welcome refreshment before driving back to the ship.
The ship docks in a very central location (close to the market) and you can enjoy the town on your own after the tour – or join the
afternoon tours also – we sail again around 22.00 this evening.
June 03, Wed O-26: KALOCSA Euro 36.-
This excursion takes you on to the great plain of Hungary to a Csarda (a large kind of farm), where you’ll see a memorable display of Hungarian horsemanship.
After tasting some regional wines, the tour continues past the famous paprika fields back to the charming little town of Kalocsa, where a short organ recital
is scheduled in its small cathedral. Finally you visit the world’s only paprika museum and a folklore museum, where you can buy items of traditional Hungarian
embroidery.
The ship docks in the town from the morning until around 13:30, continues on to Mohacs where we stop for a couple of hours, chance to
stretch your legs to explore the small town before moving on around dinner time and we sail through the night

After a walk around the old quarter a coach drives you up to the Peterwardein fortress, one of Europe’s largest defensive fortifications, which were the
masterpiece of Vauban, the 18th century French architect. Enjoy the beautiful view over the Danube, which flows majestically past this vast stronghold.
After arriving in the morning hours, the ship stays until around 10.00 when the excursion participants return aboard and then we sail for
Serbia’s capital

You drive to the Kalemegdan fortress, where you go into this formidable building and see the military museum inside it, and a Turkish bath. Then you pass by
the national museum, cross the Terazije square – named after the old town weighbridge that used to stand there. The tour continues to the parliament and
Prince Milo’s castle. Other sights include the church of the Holy Sava – the largest Orthodox Church – the Konak, the former royal castle, the Bajark mosque,
the "Zum Fragezeichen" coffee shop, and Princess Ljubica’s castle.
We arrive around 14.00 and the ship stays until 23:00 – the docking place is below the hill of the castle and a walk of 20 min brings you

rocky slopes. Our tour makes you aware of the former importance of this town. After lunch a short detour is made into the ancient village of Arbanassi, which
is famous for its painted churches and artisans’ market.
