enced format.

The Hall County Board of Health oversees activities and programs of the Hall County Health
Department. A function of the BOH is to determine the health needs and resources of the
county by research, collection and evaluation of data pertaining to the health of the com-
munity. The BOH is also responsible for developing, in cooperation with DHR, programs,
activities, and facilities responsive to the health needs of the county and insuring compliance
with rules and regulations of the DHR. The BOH is charged with enforcement of all laws per-
taining to health unless the enforcement of those laws is by law the responsibility of anoth-
er agency.

The Business License Department collects fees and issues licenses such as business
licenses, alcoholic beverage licenses, and hotel/motel tax fees. The department assists indi-

This department effectively responds to calls from the public as well as fellow agencies and
distributes complete information rapidly, and professionally monitors the progress of local
government agency responses. By receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emer-
gency calls for service from citizens, calls to Public Service agencies within Hall County and
its municipalities, and providing communications and coordination of information with Hall
County Public Works and Correctional Institution, City of Gainesville Utilities, Hall County
and City of Gainesville School Systems, local hospitals, Georgia Emergency Management,
the National Weather Service and other agencies.

Hall County 9-1-1 was established in 1979 through a proclamation by the Hall County Board
of Commissioners to provide easy access to the Public Safety Agencies for the citizens of

rowing, sprint canoe and kayaking events of the 1996 Centennial Games. It has individual
picnic sites, beach, boat ramp, as well as the rowing and canoe/kayaking facility. From I-985,
take exit 24, go left at end of ramp, go 1/2 mile, take right onto Limestone Parkway, go 2 miles,

Hall County Correctional Institution serves to meet the workforce needs of the county and
city while fulfilling an obligation to the Georgia Department of Corrections by providing safe
and secure housing for inmates in compliance with applicable policies. Under contract with
the Georgia Department of Corrections, the institution houses 240 inmates and, in return,
the state pays Hall County $20 per day, per inmate, or approximately $1.7 million annually.

Court Administration oversees non-judicial matters of the county's trial courts, under the
guidance of superior and state court judges. The department supervises non-judicial activi-
ties of court-supportive departments and services including: Pre-Trial Diversion, Court

This 1,200-acre nature preserve features a 11,300-square-foot Natural history Museum,
botanical gardens, nature trails, special programs and tours. Elachee is a Cherokee word
meaning "new green earth." The Nature Center is open 10 am to 5 pm Monday through
Saturday (except Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's Eve). Trails are
open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk.

The department includes both Code Enforcement and Environmental Inspections divisions.

HOP ABOARD!, or The Red Rabbit, is a public transportation service designed to provide
accessible, convenient and dependable transportation in the Gainesville / Hall County area.
The system increases the mobility of citizens for such essential purposes as employment,
health care, education, shopping, community services, recreation, and conducting personal
business. Our transit system is funded jointly by the Gainesville / Hall County governments,
the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration.

Hall County Fire Services staffs 13 stations strategically located throughout the county, pro-
viding 24/7 service in fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, emergency
management and fire prevention/education. Emergency Management is responsible for the
coordination of local, state and federal assistance where needed to protect the lives of peo-
ple and their property. Evacuation plans, medical assistance, temporary housing, food and
clothing are all part of the plans that are coordinated through this office.

This 136-acre park, one of the largest and most scenic parks in Hall County, includes the
first Sprayground water playground for small children as well as a variety of outdoor activi-
ties for the entire family. Open year-round. Park closes at dark. Laurel Park is located off
Highway 129 (Cleveland Highway) north of Gainesville. Take Exit 24 off I-985, and turn left
at end of ramp onto Jessee Jewell Parkway. Travel to Limestone Parkway (2nd stoplight)
and turn right. Go to the end of Limestone parkway and turn right onto Clevleand Highway.
Park is located one mile from bridge on right at New Bridge Baptist Church. Follow signs.

approximately 50 people. This park is located at 5666 Bark Camp Rd. Drive north on
Highway 60, pass the Murrayville Post Office, turn left at Family Pharmacy and then onto

The Planning Department develops long-range plans designed to direct and manage growth
based on a wide range of diverse community goals. The staff then analyzes proposed
changes in land use, and administers regulations including the Zoning Ordinance and
Subdivision Regulations, in order to implement land use and development policies of the
Board of Commissioners. The Department provides information to the Board of
Commissioners regarding the effects of growth, including the increasing demands on public
infrastructure and governmental services, and overall effects on the community's quality of life.

ports the collected waste to the landfill for disposal. The landfill provides for the disposal of
170 tons per day of solid waste at the Candler Road Landfill generated by Hall County and

The Gainesville-Hall County Senior Center provides programs, activities, excursions, con-
tinuing education, socialization and nutrition to the older adults of Hall County. The Senior
Center is open to any person age 60 or over living in Hall County. Hours of operation are

The primary function of the Real Estate Division of the Office of the Hall County Board of Tax
Assessors is to appraise real property, land and buildings for the purpose of ad valorem tax-
ation. It is the division’s responsibility to maintain fair and equitable appraisals of all real
estate regardless of class, type or ownership. This office is also responsible for receiving
returns of real property, applications for exemptions such as homestead, senior citizens',
school tax and disabled veterans'. It is also responsible for receiving applications for and
administering specialized assessments such as farm covenants, historic and transitional
