                 Coordinates with: University organizations and departments as well as student
 II.   Statement of the Job:
       The Manager of Recreational Sports and Equipment Room is responsible for the development and
       implementation of a broad range of intramural and recreational programs primarily on the
       Gorham Campus, as well as for the supervision of all Equipment Room operations.. The Gorham
       campus community includes resident students, faculty/staff, commuter students and residents of
       the town of Gorham and other surrounding communities. These recreational offerings should
       include both indoor and outdoor activities that meet the needs of resident students and the
       Gorham campus community, and allow for individual, dual and team competition as well as
       recreational opportunities. As Manager of the Equipment Room, s/he will be responsible for
       planning, coordinating and implementing plans and programs related to the purchase, storage,
       issuance and laundering of all athletic equipment, uniforms and clothing

III.   Essential Functions:
            1. Develop and implement a comprehensive recreational sports program for resident
            2. Develop policies and procedures for the Equipment Room that insure the proper
                purchase, storage, issuance and laundering of all athletic team uniforms and related
            3. Assess the needs of resident students, develop program goals and evaluate program
            4. Establish a Recreational Sports Advisory Board with broad University representation
            5. Develop a recreational sports and intramural sports handbook and make it available to
            6. Supervise the daily activities of student workers in both the Equipment Room and in
                Recreational Sports
            7. Develop and implement a marketing plan which will encourage student participation in
                Recreational Sports
            8. Maintain all records including participation statistics, schedules, attendance and
            9. Maintain safety standards and be responsible for the well-being of all participants
            10. Develop relationships with community recreational facilities and promote use for USM
            11. Develop, implement and administer a program for club sports on the Gorham Campus
            12. Assist the coordinator with proper management and supervision of the sports complex
            13. Assist with the development and regular updating of the department web site
            14. Assist with the organization and implementation of the Summer Sports Camp Program
            15. Assist with game and event management for intercollegiate athletic programs
            16. Assist the coordinator with the development of appropriate budgets to support the
            17. Explore alternative means to supplement the operating budget for recreational sports
            18. Perform periodic inventories of all storage areas
 IV.    Marginal Functions:
        Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Recreation and Fitness

  V.    Supervisory Responsibilities:
        Responsible for the hiring, training and supervision of classified staff, student intern, student
        workers and volunteers. Demonstrates knowledge and experience in maintaining a safe
        working/learning environment.

 VI.    Budget Responsibility:
        Assist the coordinator with the development of appropriate budgets to support the programs

VII.    Public and Professional Activities:
             1. Service on USM committees and departmental search committees
             2. Hold membership in professional organizations at the state, regional and national levels
             3. Attend appropriate conferences to promote professional development and personal

VIII.   Internal/External Contacts:
        Residential Life, Dean of Student Life, Greek Life, student organizations, community recreation

 IX.    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
        Excellent communication skills, a broad knowledge of sports and activities, marketing and
        promotions ability, a clear understanding of the role of recreational sports in the overall
        development of the student, a willingness to be part of a team. Possess an attitude that fosters a
        respectful, non-threatening workplace environment.

  X.    Qualifications:
        Required: Bachelors degree in recreation, physical education or a related field. An outstanding
        work ethic, ability to develop rapport and maintain relationships with students, staff and faculty.
        At least two years of experience working in a University recreational sports program or
        Preferred: Masters degree. Three or more years of experience working in a University
        recreational sports program, demonstrated success in program development, experience
        supervising students and student workers, experience managing and supervising facilities, web
        site design and maintenance capability, experience working with summer sports camps.
