 The Indian Health Service (IHS), an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services, is
   responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The IHS
  provides a comprehensive health services delivery system for American Indians and Alaska Natives
with opportunity for maximum tribal involvement in developing and managing programs to meet their

  To be eligible for this position under the Delegated Examining (DE) hiring plan, you must be a U.S.

                                       POSITION DETAILS:

This position is located at the Jicarilla Service Unit in Dulce, NM. The purpose
  of this position is to provide nursing assistance to providers and nurses in
   the care and treatment of mildly to chronically ill patients. This position
 provide direct care and services to neonatal, pediatric, geriatric, adolescent
 and adult patients. The incumbent will assist with cleaning and autoclaving
 instruments, restocking medical supplies and providing clerical support for
                   the Outpatient and Urgent Care nursing areas.

                            Salary range: $24,933.00 - $36,384.00 (Annually)

  Promotion potential: This position has promotion potential to the GS-04 grade level. If the
 position is filled at the lower grade, incumbent may be promoted to the full performance
grade level once all legal and regulatory requirements are met; however, such promotion is
                               neither automatic nor guaranteed.

       Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, heigh, weight,
                              head circumference and visual acuity.
     Performs medical procedures suck as 12-lead EKG, non-stress test, pulse oximetry,
                    spirometry, and assist patients with nebulizers as directed.
      Performs complete range of treatment procedures including maintaining IV fluids,
       setting up and giving oxygen treatment, changing sterile dressings, applying splints,
                            bandages and other dressings as directed.
                         Restock exam rooms with medical supplies.
       Cleans unoccupied exam rooms and equipment to make ready for next patient.

                                 QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 All applicants must meet the qualification requirements of this position by the closing date of the job

Basic Requirements:

Candidates for the GS-03 must have had 26 weeks of General Experience OR 1 year above
high school with courses related to the occupation.

Candidates for the GS-04 must have had 26 weeks of General Experience and 26 weeks of
Specialized Experience OR successful completion of a 2-year degree program in an
accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or
in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a
program for a psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician.

General Experience: (1) Any types of work that demonstrates the applicant’s ability to
perform the work of the position as shown under “Duties and Responsibilities”, or (2)
experience as a trainee in providing assistance to the nursing and medical staff. Adheres to
general safety to transport patients within the departments or hospital. Has basic
knowledge of medical terminology or anatomy and physiology to record information in
patient medical records.

Specialized Experience: Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional
nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing or
patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as:
     Providing personal nursing care such as pre- and post-operative care.
     Support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up
       and operating special medical equipment and apparatus.
     Caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes
       in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement.
     Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including
       passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning
