 Assignment Brief:

 Understanding how to communicate successfully is fundamental for progress in the world of
 work and has particular importance in the health and social care sector. In this unit you will be
 introduced to the principles of communication. You will apply this knowledge to communicate
 effectively with adults with different needs. You will also be introduced to a range of ways to
 communicate with babies, children and teenagers.

 Learning outcomes:

    1. Know about the principles of communication in health and social care
    2. Understand how to communicate with adults in health and social care
    3. Understand how to communicate with babies, children and young people in health and
       social care

Task 1:

You are to give six descriptions of different forms of communication used in health and social
care. (1.1)


Task 2:

Give accurate descriptions and examples of four different barriers to communication. These
must relate to the health and social care sector. (1.2)

Task 3:

Identify four adults who have different needs. Provide evidence of effective communication
with these adults. You can use photographs (with explanations and a witness statement), video
recordings and witness statements to evidence this task. Give a brief self-assessment on each
adult explaining how you communicated and how effective it was (2.1)


Task 4:

Give one example of how to communicate with each of the following babies, children and young
people. Provide evidence of the different ways you communicate with babies, children and
young people. You can use photographs (with explanations and a witness statement), video
recordings and witness statements (make sure you have written permission from parents if
using photographs). Give a brief self-assessment of each of the groups explaining how you
communicated and how effective it was (3.1)
