FROM THE DIRECTOR…

I ’d like to take this opportunity to express the
gratitude we feel for the support and partici-

pation of our friends in the community. The Art

             Center’s ten-year celebration was a great party,
featuring the voices of the original Founders and

City Council Members who enabled the Art

Center project to move forward. It was after
many years of dedicated fundraising that their

dream came to fruition. With a quick look back

at the last few years, one can see that the vision
of a community art center that offers outstand-

ing programs in the visual and performing arts
has blossomed to include a wonderful balance of
arts and exhibition programs for both youth and

             adults.

The continued growth of the Art Center requires
continued support. It is a delight to welcome

new members, new Foundation Board Members
and new Friends Council volunteers to our fami-

ly. The Allied Arts Board and Historic Resources

Board will soon welcome new board members.
The partnerships we have formed with the

Huntington Beach school districts, the Music

             Teachers Association and Newport Repertory

Theater have not only multiplied the variety of
programs available, but have also engaged new
             audiences of all ages.

Our supporting donors have stretched to bring

the Art Center into new levels of funding. The

Boeing Company, Target, Arts Orange County

and the James Irvine Foundation have all
increased their grant support in the last year. As

a result, we were able to present an expanded

concert series through Live at the Center, a

Family Arts Day that featured professional artists
in workshops with children of all ages, and the
exciting exhibition Out of Context, which includ-

ed six associated cultural events. The

Foundation’s annual Brunch for the Arts was by
             far the best brunch ever!

We are grateful—2005 was a very good year. We
look forward to seeing you in the New Year

ahead, with all the excitement of new programs

and events adding an artistic dimension to life.

C ircle your calendar NOW! What better
way to spend St. Patrick’s Day than sit-
ting around talking with a group of artists?
For a curator, there is
nothing better. For a
community, it’ll be a
relaxing romp through
the minds of artists. And
yes, there will be beer.
Opening on Friday,
March 17th at 7pm, the
Talking Heads – artists
that are on the core facul-
ties of art departments of
graduate universities
throughout Southern
California – will talk your
heads off if you let them.
And no, there’s no home-
work. The panel discus-
sion goes from 7 to 8pm
and is followed by an
opening reception.
Talking Heads will feature
a wide array of works by
enthusiastic artists from
the region. Although
they teach in our own
backyard, collectively they Linda Day
