Project Proposal – To Provide a whole new look and layout for a very active and busy portal site which links potential employees and employers for the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) and Anti/Counter- Terrorism (AT / CT). The site has also grown tremendously in light of response to large natural disasters in recent months and has picked up several companies specializing in those fields as well. Goals: To maintain and grow the subscriber rate to the site. To enhance the navigation of the site. To set up E-Commerce for Employers posting job ads. To set up additional areas of the site for which we have grown into. Utilize affiliate programs for majority of money making for site. Design, Develop and Implement better online communication for all clients. Prepare for growth into the RFP market from companies around the world. Prepare for passing on RFP’s to companies that conduct such work. Target Market: Current and retired Special Operations personnel from the military, Law Enforcement officers, Rescue Personnel, FEMA, DOS and other Federal Agencies specializing in the GWOT and AT Missions. Computer skills vary – majority of the working market will be in their late 30’s – early 60’s and have very basic computer skills with the knowledge to operate on the internet. Companies – tend to have much younger personnel running their computers and generally have relatively good experience in maintaining their computers and are avid internet users. Objectives & Market Needs: Ease of use E-Commerce Solution New Contractor information One Stop Shop for Supplies Ability to be downloaded to Blackberry type devices Auto-Responders for Inquiries to Web Site Design, Develop & Implement interactive PDF forms for recording info from clients. TACTICS: In order to achieve our goals we must accomplish the following: Get site revamped in order to better serve our clients Ensure ease of information for Employers Provide for user feedback, comments, suggestions Establish link with suppliers for assorted materials / supplies needed by our personnel. Database and monitor clients – (future) Develop Marketing materials to send to employers Continually develop site from participant feedback and research VENUE: This will be a web site. The web site will operate on classes written in Dreamweaver MX 2004. Basically any platform or OS that is less than 4 years old should be able to access this web site from a standard dial up internet connection. Standards to be utilized through out the site are: DHTML HTML 4.0 CSS Style sheets Linked PhP Downloadable forms in PDF 5.0 CGI / Perl Scripting for form(s) and test(s) and survey(s) Handicap access will be incorporated later Java / Java Scripting o Prevent right clicking on site o Update date time group as well o For close browser window B. Contracts: No contracts were used for this particular web site for development. We do, however, have a hosting agreement w/ Aitcom.net for web hosting for 1 yr at a time. High Speed Internet is also on a 1 yr contract via Comcast for cable modem. C. Timeline Management - I truly wish I could iron this one out. What is done is to work on the web site during classes if that particular class pertains to any upgrades for Spec Ops Advantage web site. I have however, done a time line (very basic) for upgrades of implementing a database and the interfaces for it during Sr. Project as outlined in Sr. Research. Sort the goals 1. Where: At home office Why: Needed to bill clients for posting ads How: Using MS Office, Quick Books Pro, PhP, MySQL and DHTML develop a form that will print out once client buys ad space for posting jobs. In the meantime – PayPal will be set up and used as primary for online commerce. Who: Bart What: Set up Cart for PayPal – customize the client invoice through their program. When: 13-14 March 2006 Where: Via the paypal.com site on the internet from home office computer. Why: To establish immediate use of Online E-Commerce How: Through the PayPal free online shopping cart features for merchants. 2. Develop forms for subscription to mailing list with auto-responder Who: Bart What: Develop online form for subscriptions – needs to have form validation scripts inserted When: During week 4 and 5 of current course Where: On contact us screen in Spec Ops Advantage via the internet and FTP of web site. Why: Need form that will validate information coming through. We get personnel submitting information with out any info on how to vet them and need that info in order to work on keeping the mailing list more secure. How: Determine best script to use for form validation and incorporate it into the forms. Test thoroughly. 3. Develop forms for submission of resume / training info to those personnel that are vetted on list Who: Bart What: Develop online form for gathering training information to be included in DB When: Week 1 Where: Email link welcoming the client to the mailing list. Only sent out once vetted to the list. Why: Once personnel vetted – need to determine their level of capabilities and training. These personnel receive certain job postings that do not get posted to the internet. How: Determine best script(s) to use for form validation and incorporate it into the forms. Need to determine all training that could/ would be listed that pertains to GWOT and incorporate 4. So here they go. Week 1 – Sr. Research Class – Made project proposals – Spec Ops Advantage upgrade was selected for Sr. Project class. Web Dev II – Complete Proposal done for Spec Ops Advantage Week 2 - Sr. Research Class – Concept document completed – pretty easy since majority of info already on hand from research and set up of initial site. Web Dev II – Started learning how to use php scripting and MySQL – need to develop for a shopping cart as well as form functions. Week 3 - Sr. Research Class – Good week – Competitive analysis, Cost Benefit analysis (partial) completed and looking good. Worked on tweaking the following; competitive matrix, top level design, functional specification doc, target audience doc. Web Dev II – Practice making database queries for potential queries of needed queries for my database project. Working on setting up and making this darn database work. Tested several forms. Week 4 - Sr. Research Class – Concept for Portfolio packets. I know they are needed, but what a pain in the butt for someone that could care less about getting a job in this field. Not what I want to do. However, it was done and done well. Set up goals for Sr. Project on development of project. Used GAT format. Worked quite well. Web Dev II – Tried doing JOIN statements in MySQL – still fighting with scripting languages and trying to get my Server set up with PhP and MySQL Week 5 - Sr. Research Class – Proposed Draft Plan for Spec Ops – coming along very well. Got Pay Pal shopping cart set up as set in goals. A few class assignments that definitely were not beneficial to completing Sr. Research on our projects – but did well on them none the less. Web Dev II – Completed Wire Frame layout for Spec Ops – also used proposed Draft for upcoming upgrades in the future. Got MySQL installed and running on my server. PhP is up and running. DB is set up – new ER diagrams charted in Visio – MyPHPAdmin installed and run – have set up server config now have to do re-config for security purposes. Does not look that hard to do. Week 6 - Sr. Research Class – Turn this in and Final Project papers – wait for Sr. Project. YEAH… Web Dev II – Have to have working Shopping cart on site. WHEW… Have PayPal shopping cart up and running – but still need to try and do my own with proper code and scripting. Working on it Boss.
