CSLF Activities Continue to Help Move CCS Technologies Forward
Latest Initiatives Outlined in 2011 Strategic Plan Implementation Report
Washington, D.C. – The Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) is making continued progress
conducting activities to encourage the international development and commercialization of carbon
capture and storage (CCS), based on information included in the organization’s new Strategic Plan
Implementation Report for 2011.
CCS – a number of technologies for the separation, capture, transport, and storage of carbon dioxide
(CO2) – is considered by many experts as a vital component of a portfolio strategy (along with increased
use of nuclear and renewable energy, and improved efficiencies) for helping reduce CO2 emissions and
confront global climate change.
The 49-page document reviews CSLF 2010 activities aimed at implementing the group’s strategic plan,
which is dedicated to positioning the CSLF as the “catalyst for the deployment and eventual
commercialization of CCS.” The CSLF is a ministerial-level international climate change initiative
comprised of 25 members, including 24 countries and the European Commission, focused on the
development of improved, cost-effective CCS technologies.
Among the highlights included in the 2011 Report:
• Recognition of five new CCS projects at the 2010 Annual Meeting in Warsaw, Poland, bringing
the total number of CSLF recognized technology demonstrations to 32, 22 of which are active;
• Welcoming the United Arab Emirates as the 25th member of the organization;
• Release during the year of a new Technology Roadmap, noting “significant international
progress” in advancing CCS, but recognizing “a number of important challenges” that remain to
be addressed before widespread commercialization;
• Continued implementation of a strong outreach program, including release of CSLF publications
and videos aimed at enhancing CCS public awareness and knowledge.
• A report on various stakeholder activities around the globe; and,
• Status reports from CSLF recognized projects.
