ADC ANNOUNCES COIN LAUNDRY WITH SAFE-
EQUIPPED DRYERS

Fall River, Massachusetts–January 28, 2008– American
Dryer Corporation (“ADC”) announces the installation four
AD-78, 75-lb. dryers and 25 SL-3131, 30-lb. stack dryers
equipped with the S.A.F.E. (sensor-activated fire
extinguishing) system at Laundry Day Laundromat in New
Jersey. ADC’s patented system is the only fire
Detail of the SAFE water connection.
suppression system available to the coin/vended laundry
market today.

With the cost of insurance on the rise and dryer fires one of the leading causes of out-of-home
fires in the United States, a fire suppression system is a good investment for all coin store owners.
Installation of the S.A.F.E. system may even qualify the owner for a reduction in insurance
premiums.
While several manufacturers have developed fire suppression systems for on-premise
commercial dryers, the S.A.F.E. system boasts many advantages. S.A.F.E. is the only fire
suppression system whose activation will not ruin the dryer or flood the premises. If a fire occurs in
a dryer equipped with S.A.F.E., the fire will be quickly extinguished and the dryer will be operational
after a simple cleaning and resetting procedure.
“The beauty of the S.A.F.E. system is that you can rest assured that your investment is
protected from the damages caused by dryer fires,” said John Olsen, VP of Sales & Marketing at
ADC. “The minimal cost of the equipment upgrade to get a dryer with S.A.F.E. more than pays for
itself in peace of mind and certainly in the event of a fire.”
The S.A.F.E. (sensor-activated fire extinguishing) system from American Dryer Corporation can
detect a fire in the dryer while the machine is idle and while it is operational. In both cases the fire is
extinguished in seconds. The S.A.F.E. system monitors temperature inside the dryer and activates
the extinguisher if it senses an unexplained rise in temperature. The system releases water vapor,
which starves the fire of oxygen and also ‘wets out’ the laundry. Once the S.A.F.E. system is
activated, the drum is stopped and then jogged (rotated for a few seconds) to ensure that the
laundry is dampened and smoldering pieces are extinguished. The drum is then idle and jogged
again fifteen seconds later. This function continues for a period of two minutes, which ensures that
the fire is completely extinguished and there is no possibility of it restarting. However, the S.A.F.E.
system still monitors the condition of the dryer, and if for any reason the fire is restarted, the system
will reactivate.
