Historic and Scenic Virginia Using Fredericksburg as a hub, allow a day or more to visit the surrounding Virginia countryside. Plantations and Winery Tour in The Northern Neck (Allow a full day, including three hours driving time.) Stop 1 – George Washington’s Birthplace National Monument, where our nation’s first President was born, is a working plantation operated by the National Park Service. Allow 60 minutes. Stop 2 – Stratford Hall, the historic home of the Lee family was the birthplace of Robert E. Lee and the boyhood home of Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, both signers of the Declaration of Independence. An authentic plantation lunch is served in the cabin dining room. With lunch, allow two and one-half hours. Stop 3 – Ingleside Plantation Vineyards produces red, white and blush wine, and most recently, Virginia champagne. Tours and wine tastings can be arranged.
