Definitions
• Perimeter- The border or outer boundary of a
two-dimensional figure

• Circumference- The outer boundary of a circular
area

• Volume- The amount of space that an object
occupies

• Estimation- approximate calculation; estimate

• Area- the number of square units that cover a
flat surface

• The length of a side of a hexagon is
3 inches. What is the perimeter?
Formula for Perimeter

Square      P= 4s
Rectangle   P=2l + 2w or P= 2(l + w)
Area
• Sally’s bathroom is 15 feet by 20
feet. She wants to cover the entire
floor with 5 feet by 5 feet tiles, how
many will she need?

5 * 5= 25

• The area of a square is 4 inches.

and a diameter of 4 inches. How
much paper is needed to wrap the
