1 NORTHSHORE TECHNICAL COLLEGE Course Syllabus for MTTC 2410 Basic Mill I Campus: Course: MTTC 2410 Basic Mill I Department: Machine Tool Technology Course Credits: 4 credit hour, 2 Lec./2 Lab Class Location: Instructor: Course Description: Identifying types of milling machines, accessories, parts, and controls. Learning to mill to length, squaring part, milling set-ups, associated cutting tool, and calculate proper feeds and speeds. Learn to realign a vertical milling head. Square up milling vise. Manufacture 3-D parts using a milling process. Manufacture mechanical parts that include, key-seats, and gang-milling procedures. Course Mission: To help the student to understand and be able to learn the uses of a milling machines and its accessories, to help the student to understand and be able to satisfactorily manufacture parts using milling machines and its accessories. Prerequisites: Student is required to pass entrance exam for the college, and complete MTTC 2110, MTTC 2120. Deliverables: The student is also required to take and complete successfully the review tests required. The student if required to complete satisfactorily projects issued to them by the instructor. Course Objectives: I. Identify and practice safety rules. II. Identify types of milling machines, and controls. III. Calculate and adjust speeds and feeds. IV. Identify cutting tools. 2 V. Identify work - holding devices. VI. Identify milling parts and accessories. VII. Realign vertical milling head with dial indicator VIII. Cut keyways. IX. Cut different shapes. X. Perform gang-milling operations. XI. Perform angular milling setups. Scope The grading scale at Louisiana Technical College for all programs, except those regulated by a licensing board, is listed below. The students’ transcript will include the letter grade only, not the percentage grade. 90% - 100% A 80% - 89% B 70% - 79% C 60% - 69% D 59% - Below F The LTC grading scale for programs regulated by licensing boards is: 94% - 100% A 88% - 93% B 80% - 87% C 70% - 79% D 69% - Below F Academic Honesty: Plagiarism, cheating, and other forms of academic dishonesty are prohibited.
