Re: 2011 Maryland AG in the Classroom AG Literacy Project
Maryland Ag in the Classroom is coordinating the first Maryland Ag
Literacy Project to be held from March 15th through May 15th, 2011.
Community members from a variety of organizations will be volunteering to
read Seed, Soil, Sun – Earth’s Recipe for Food by Cris Peterson to
students in first through third grades. Following the presentation, the book
will be donated to the school’s media center.
We hope that your school will participate in this opportunity for students to
learn about where their food comes from and the people that are involved in
getting food to their tables. Agricultural literacy helps students understand
that their food and fiber begin on the farm and then are processed,
marketed, distributed, and sold by a workforce that includes 20% of our
