Diamondback stands 230 feet at its highest point with a first drop of 215 feet at a 74-degree angle and snakes its way around 5282 feet of track in excess of 80 miles per hour! The ride features 10 vertical drops overall, including drops of 193, 131, 129, 110 and 106 feet, two helixes – one at 323 degrees and the other at 287 degrees – and a spectacular splashdown ending. Diamondback is the tallest, fastest and meanest roller coaster to ever strike Kings Island! THE BEAST Celebrating 30 years of terror in 2009, The Beast is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest wooden roller coaster in the world and is arguably the greatest roller coaster ever built. When The Beast opened in 1979, it broke all existing records for track length (one and three-quarter miles, a ride lasting four minutes long), and speed (more than 65 miles an hour), and featured two of the longest vertical drops in coaster history, 135 and 141 feet. Built in a denselywooded, 35-acre site in the Rivertown section of Kings Island, The Beast was designed and built by the Kings Island Construction, Maintenance and Engineering Department. 5 The legendary Beast roller coaster has given nearly 43 million rides since it opened in 1979. FIREHAWK Ohio’s only flying roller coaster propels willing test pilots 115 feet in the air and through five inversions at speeds of more than 50 miles an hour – all while facing the ground, experiencing the inconceivable feeling of human flight. VORTEX This one-of-a-kind steel looping roller coaster thrills riders by sending them upside down six times! It was the first roller coaster in the world with six inversions. SON OF BEAST This world-record breaking roller coaster elevates the classic wood coaster experience to a new level, taking riders up higher than ever and racing them around more than 7,000 feet of wooden track faster than ever before. Son of Beast world-records include tallest wooden roller coaster (218 feet), tallest wooden roller coaster drop (214 feet), fastest wooden roller coaster (78 miles an hour) and the most wooden roller coaster track at one park (22,612 feet). THE RACER The twin-tracked Racer is a traditional wooden out-and-back coaster and credited for re-igniting the coaster building boom in the early 1970’s, thus beginning the second golden age of the roller coaster. To honor the Racer’s staying power, the American Coaster Enthusiasts named this popular ride an “ACE Roller Coaster Landmark” during a ceremony at the park in 2007, making it one of only 14 coasters in the world with landmark status. In addition, the Racer is also notable for its appearance in the Cincinnati Kids episode of The Brady Bunch, filmed at the park in 1973. FLIGHT OF FEAR The first linear induction motor LIM-launched roller coaster in the world catapults riders from 0 to 54 miles an hour in just four seconds on a heart-pounding adventure in total darkness through four inversions. 6 INVERTIGO The only steel looping, forward and backward, face-to-face roller coaster in the Midwest. This thrilling coaster shoots riders up a 138-foot lift hill, giving them momentum to fly at speeds reaching 55 miles an hour through three inversions forward and then backward. NICKELODEON UNIVERSE Being No. 1 is hard work! For the eighth year in a row, Amusement Today readers awarded Kings Island with the prestigious Golden Ticket for Best Kids’ Area in the World in 2007.
