The makers of Green Works® products and Suzanne Agasi,
the Founder of Clothing Swap, Inc. have teamed up to provide you
with an easy, step by step guide on how to host your own
                    Kids Clothing Swap at home!
Step 1 - Select a date.
  • Based on your schedule and your family’s schedule, select a date that best works for you.
  • From there, decide if your swap will host both kids and adults – this will also help in determining the
time of your swap (daytime vs. nighttime), the food, the activities, etc.

Step 2 - Declutter.
  • Get the word out about your Clothing Swap house party sooner rather than later. This gives everyone
ample time to clean out their closets and find items to swap.
  • Make sure to invite your guests three-to-four weeks in advance. With your invites, give your guests the
    following instructions:
  • What to bring:
         • Kids clothes and accessories in all sizes that are wearable and freshly laundered. We recommend
washing your clothes with Green Works Natural Laundry Detergent prior to the kids clothing

Most swap-worthy items fall into 3 categories:
         • NEW Clothes (with tags)
         • NEARLY NEW Clothes (worn only once or twice)
         • GENTLY USED Clothes (worn, but still in very good condition)
  • What not to bring:
       • Out of respect for fellow swappers and your community, please do not bring ripped, dirty, stained items,
those with broken zippers, or otherwise unwearable.

  • Note that all unclaimed items can be donated to a host selected non-profit or cause.

Step 3 - Prepare for your party.
   • You can create a successful swap by designating different areas of your home for different articles of clothing
or different children’s clothes sizes. For example, your living room might be the location for all clothes for
newborns, while the bedroom might have clothes for toddlers.
   • Set up different tables clearly labeled with sizes or type of clothing to help your guests
     “organize” when they arrive.
   • Mirrors, racks and hangers are helpful but not required.
Step 4- Serve up some tasty treats.
  • Check out the recipes party favor on this site full of easy & fun recipes for your guests!
  • Light appetizers such as cheese and crackers, fruit, veggies and dip are also great.
  • Depending upon the guests, hosts may want to have kid –friendly snacks on hand such as PB&J sand
wiches and cheese sandwiches, veggies and ranch dip, etc.
  • In addition, the host may ask for each guest to bring a dish – making the clothing swap house party
    more like a potluck event.

Step 5 – SWAP ‘TIL YOU DROP. Take home your favorites for FREE!

Step 6 - Help a local charity.
  • If there are remaining clothes that have not been swapped, contact a local charity to see if they will
    take the clothes.
  • For local charities, hosts can visit and input their zip code for local charities.
This site serves as a directory for local non-profits.
  • In addition, hosts can also search for additional local charities.

Step 7 - Feel great!
Enjoy new-to-you items and relish the fact that you’re being kind to your wallet, your closet, your community,
and the environment!

                               Frequently Asked Questions

We know you have questions about hosting your own Kids Clothing Swap & we’re here to help! Check out the
FAQ’s below to help you have a fun & successful Kids Clothing Swap!

What is a Kids Clothing Swap?
A Kids Clothing Swap allows moms to let go of the clutter in their kid’s closets and take home free, ”new
to you” clothing. Clothing Swaps encourage guests to reuse and recycle their gently used kids clothes and
accessories and at the same time provide guests with a sense that they are doing something good for the
environment and their wallets. We encourage any leftover clothes from a Kids Clothing Swap be donated to
a local charity of choice to help families in need.

How many people should be invited to a Kids Clothing Swap and what day/time works best?
The number of attendees really depends upon the size of the home and how spacious it is. A studio apart-
ment can probably host 10 guests comfortably and a house can typically host up to 25 guests. Hosts may
want to invite more guests than their space allows considering that there may be some last minute cancel-
lations. Hosts can also encourage guests to bring their friends. The more relaxed the guests are, the more
inclined they will be to swap ‘til they drop. When to have the party is up to you. Check with your guests on
their availablity to ensure great attendance!

For a Kids Clothing Swap, what items will the host need to gather in advance (i.e. hangers- kid and
adult size, clothing racks, etc.)?
Hosts can easily sort the items to be swapped by the category of clothes such as pants, dresses, hats, shoes,
shirts, etc. or designate certain rooms/areas in their home for different types of clothes, for example: boys
clothing swapping room, girls clothing swapping room, etc.
One essential component to a successful Kids Clothing Swap is the lighting. When guests try on their clothes
they will want to have the best light possible so that they can really gauge how the new article fits and looks.

Is it necessary for attendees to bring their kids in order to attend?
It is not necessary to have children attend a Kids Clothing Swap. Moms who are attending will have a good
sense for the child’s clothing size. It is really up to the host to determine if they want the party to include
guests’ children or not.

                         Frequently Asked Questions (cont.)
How does the host go about selecting a local charity and donating the remaining clothes?
For local charities, hosts can visit and input their zip code for local charities. This
site serves as a directory for local non-profits.
Once the local charity is selected, the host should contact the organization to schedule a clothing donation
pick-up/drop off.

How far in advance should invitations be sent out?
For a Kids Clothing Swap, hosts should send invitations three to four weeks prior to the party. This gives the
host ample time to clean out the unwanted clothes and accessories in their kids’ closets, and to launder any
clothes that will be swapped. We recommend washing your clothes with Green Works™ Natural Laundry
Detergent prior to the kids clothing swap.

We’ve provided an eco-friendly way to invite your guests to your party. Check out the Evite® here on the
site to email an invitation to your guests!

What types of food and beverages are recommended for the house party?
We’ve created some recommended recipes for you in our Recipe Party Favor! Other light appetizers such
as cheese and crackers, fruit, veggies and ranch dip are also great, however depending upon the selected
theme and guests, hosts may want to have kid – friendly snacks on hand such as PB&J and/or cheese sand-
wiches, veggies and ranch dip, etc.

How long should the party last?
A Kids Clothing Swap should be approximately three hours in length. In addition, the host should keep a men-
tal checklist of how the party will play out. The guest should have plenty of time to mingle, relax, eat and swap.

On the day of the Kids Clothing Swap, what should the host do to prepare for her guests?
The host should enlist some of her guests to assist in the light preparation such as arranging the food and
activity stations, as well as help categorize the articles of clothing to be swapped. Clothing can be organzied
by size, girls vs. boys clothes, by age range (newborn, toddlers) etc.
