Football Shirts for Kenya
Young Kenyans love football but they don’t have any replica shirts and would love to have some.
If you have any old ones (or not so old!) we can send them off to Kenya and make an African child
happy.
Bring it / them along and get to play in “The Cage” - an exciting 2 on 2 game of football.
Best wishes
Mr Pulman
Maths Students’ Success
I am delighted to announce the results of the Junior Maths Challenge. This is a national competi-
tion where the Year 8 students competed against students from across the country solving prob-
lems using a variety of mathematical skills. We were extremely pleased that the ability of our stu-
dents was recognised and that we have students who are achieving as highly as some of the best
students in the country.
A Gold Award was achieved by Josh Wilson and Bronze Awards were achieved by Tatum Ander-
son, Victoria Newell, Aimee Mason, Marcus Pilkington, Amii Matthews, Ben Cherrill, Robert Ben-
nett, Bradley Quilter, Atlanta Cooper and Joe Carlyle. Isabel Saunders and Harry Wilson were
just marks off achieving a Bronze Award.
Congratulations to all these students - Fantastic Achievement.

On Tuesday 9 June, the Pathway A Group from Year 11 presented a tv / dvd player to the
Moonbeam Ward at Broomfield Hospital purchased with money they raised from a charity
sponsored walk they did in March from Witham to Maldon.
Well done everyone.

Lunchtime Clubs and Activities
There are currently several lunchtime clubs which run on a regular basis. From next Monday a
schedule of clubs and activities will be displayed near the Pastoral area for students’ information.
Current clubs include a Dr Who Club, Craft Club and Basketball Club.
Year 7 Primeval Club runs every Tuesday and Wednesday. We are currently mak-
ing plans to film our very own version of the popular television series and looking
forward to a visit from the show’s Story Editor on 8th July. Any Year 7 students
wishing to get involved need to come along to L15 next Tuesday – there are limited
spaces left!
From Monday 15th June we will be trialling a Football Loan
Scheme. The Nike Shop in Freeport has very kindly donated a small number of foot-
balls for students to use during lunchtime. Year 10 Prefects will be on hand outside
the Science Block to run this scheme.
We are also hoping to offer students the chance to participate in two lunchtime
workshops during this half term based around the themes of hair and skincare and
these will be in collaboration with the Lush store in Chelmsford and Stapleton Hair
Design in Witham. More information on these exciting opportunities will follow
shortly!
Students are welcome to speak to me directly if they have any other ideas for
lunchtime clubs or activities. Alternatively, ideas can be passed on via tutors or
Student Services.

Accelerated Reader
Last week 7N was awarded a
trophy for reading the great-
est number of books during
the previous week. Between
them they had taken 18 quiz-
zes. This amounted to over
320,000 words!
The winners this week are 7R
who took 8 quizzes. This
means that they read 156,000
words between them.

Monday 8 June was the first day of “National Tackling Drugs Week” which is
a home office initiative aimed at reducing the use and availability of drugs in
our communities. As part of the week long event, which is supported by Essex
Police and Braintree District Council, students were exposed to a wealth of in-
formation about the effects and consequences of drug-taking. PC Crysell was
on site answering questions and handing out literature. A competition to de-
sign a poster encouraging young people to say no to drugs has been running
all week in the Academy and the Town. Winners will be announced in due
course and the winning poster will be used to promote anti-drug initiatives
across the entire Braintree District and the winner will receive a prize of Free-
port shopping vouchers.
In order to improve communication between parents/carers and the Academy, callers are to be
given the opportunity to dial extension numbers of first line contact members of staff or to leave
a voice mail message. These are the extension numbers we feel would be most useful to you
