2007 survey of 7,740 employees found 37% were targets of sabotage, verbal abuse, threatening conduct, intimidation or humiliation, and 45% suffered health problems due to associated stress. Four times more prevalent than harassment, but largely unlegislated and unregulated, bullying is often justified as, “that’s just the way she is.” Accepting this “norm” makes organizational culture change nearly impossible.
