SAMPLE DMD MENTOR RECRUITMENT LETTER FOR 2010

[It is best to place the following on your organizational letterhead.]

[Date, 2010]

Dear Prospective Workplace Mentor:

On behalf of [Organization Name], I would like to invite you to take part in Florida Disability Mentoring
Day (DMD) by becoming a Workplace Mentor to a student or job seeker with a disability. The event will
take place on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, and provides you with an excellent opportunity to volunteer
your time sharing insight into your career with a person with a disability.

For many of us, having a positive role model may have meant the difference between pursuing our full
potential and merely wishing we had done so. With DMD, you have that opportunity to make that kind
of difference by serving as a Mentor for the day. By participating in DMD, you can help students and job
seekers with disabilities expand their horizons, solidify career goals and learn from a practical
perspective about what life is like on the job. Your participation in DMD is flexible to your time and
schedule as well. Whether you prefer to mentor for a half-day or a full-day, or you are interested in one
Mentee or more, we are happy to work with you to accommodate your preferences for participating.

(Mention Governor’s involvement and local government proclamations and positive media attention here
where applicable.)

DMD is hosted internationally by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and is
coordinated in Florida by a collaboration of The Able Trust and other state level organizations. Last year
in Florida, more than 4,300 students, job-seekers and workplace mentors participated across the state!

Please complete the enclosed Mentor Application Form and return it to us by Friday, September 3, 2010.
Once we receive your application, we will do everything we can to match you with a student or job
seeker with a disability who has an interest in your career field. If you have questions about DMD or
would like more information, feel free to contact me at [your organization] at [your organization’s phone
number/email] or visit www.floridadmd.org.

We appreciate your consideration of Disability Mentoring Day 2010, Florida’s 10 th Anniversary Year! We
look forward to your participation and speaking with you soon.

Sincerely,
