ABSTRACT
The syndromes of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy are
common and one of the earliest pregnancy phenomena among women.
If these symptoms progress to hyperemesis gravidarum, they not only
exert a negative perception during the course of the pregnancy, but may
also affect the lives of both the mother and her unborn fetus. In this
article, a literature reviews covering “hyperemesis gravidarum”, “non-
pharmacological and pharmacological management of hyperemesis
gravidarum”, and “the provision of timely and adequate care for
hyperemesis gravidarum” was carried out. This background is discussed
in depth in relationship to the provision of medical and nursing care.
The aim is for the research findings to enable healthcare providers to
obtain a comprehensive understanding of hyperemesis gravidarum.
All of these factors will help institutions to provide adequate care for
pregnant women and help them to have a smooth and positive pregnant
experience. (Tzu Chi Nursing Journal, 2007; 6:4, 73-79.)

Key words: hyperemesis gravidarum, caring, reflection.
