                          AFP HELPS REVIVE PASIG RIVER
3,000 soldiers to participate in 10 10 10 fun run

CAMP EMILIO F. AGUINALDO, Quezon City – As an expression of commitment to
preserve life in the environment and help address the continuing problem of the Pasig
River, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will be taking part in a meaningful
event that will help in the restoration of the Pasig River.

ABS-CBN’s Kapit Bisig Para Sa Ilog Pasig Foundation is hosting a fun run dubbed as
“10.10.10. Run for Pasig River” on October 10, 2010 for a worthwhile cause of
generating funds to aid in the rehabilitation of the clogged waterways of Pasig River and
its tributaries. This activity envisions to generate as many as 120,000 runners to join the
fun run that will hopefully place in the Guiness Book of World Records as the biggest
running event for a cause.

In view of this important event, the AFP will participate by providing a total of 3,000
soldiers out of the 120,000 participants that the organizing committee is aiming. The
soldier participants will come from the AFP’s major services units – Philippine Army,
Philippine Navy, and Philippine Air Force.

The fun run for a cause event will have three major starting points – Diokno Avenue, SM
Mall of Asia for the 3-kilometer category, CCP Complex for the 5-kilometer category,
and Cor. Makati Avenue and Ayala Avenue for the 10-kilometer category. This will all
converge in one finish line which will be at the Seashore Avenue, SM Mall of Asia after
which a grand celebration will happen to culminate this one significant and momentous
event in the country.

This is one manifestation of the AFP’s concern in the preservation and protection of the
environment. The AFP’s duty goes beyond the security concerns of the country and its
people. As a commitment to serve the country better, the AFP faces a broader and
universal matter that is to win over environmental degradation and maintain continuity in
the environment.
