As part of its efforts to recognize and encourage academic achievement in all disciplines, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is pleased to sponsor this Emerging Scholar Award. The Phi Kappa Phi Board of Directors encourages qualified undergraduates in all areas of study to apply. The program is designed to help support you as you continue to seek knowledge and experience in your academic field.

EMERGING SCHOLAR AWARD COMPETITION
General Instructions for Completing the Emerging Scholar Grant Application Before completing the Award Application, carefully read all instructions and information. Sixty $250 Emerging Scholar Awards are available for 2008–2009. DEADLINE The complete application and supporting documents must arrive at Phi Kappa Phi Society Headquarters on or before July 14, 2008. Materials arriving after the due date will not be considered. ELIGIBILITY The competition is open to students in all fields of study. Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements based on the 2007–2008 academic year: You must be enrolled at an institution that has an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter (see www.PhiKappaPhi.org/Web/Chapters for listing). You must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale. You must have been enrolled as a full-time student during the fall 2007 and spring 2008 academic year. You must have earned at least 30 semester hours (excluding all AP, Credit by Exam, transfer credits, etc.) of academic credit. PLEASE NOTE: You must have earned no more than 60 semester hours (excluding all AP, Credit by Exam, transfer credits, etc.) during your post high school academic career. PREPARATION OF THE APPLICATION 1. Applications must be typed. You may download a “writeable” application online (type directly on the online application and print) on our Web site–PhiKappaPhi.org. Prepare all documents in 11 or 12 point font size. 2. Please answer each item on the application in the space allowed. Do not add supplemental sheets other than the required transcript. 3. In your “Personal Statement,” clearly (a) identify the goals you plan to accomplish if you are awarded an Emerging Scholar Award and (b) address the other topics indicated.
4. An original of the application should be submitted, along with one official transcript in a sealed envelope or sent electronically from your academic institution. Unofficial transcripts (ie, personal files, downloaded copy of grades) will not be accepted. 5. Complete the Applicant’s Checklist, then read and sign (electronic signatures will be accepted) the Applicant’s Certification, which indicates that you understand and accept the conditions under which the award is granted. Send the application and supporting documents to: Emerging Scholar Award The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi 7576 Goodwood Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA 70806 OR EmergingScholar@phikappaphi.org IF SELECTED TO RECEIVE A PHI KAPPA PHI AWARD Recipients of the Phi Kappa Phi Emerging Scholar Award will be required to: Provide a high-quality color photo and brief biographical description for publicity purposes, which may include, but not be limited to, press releases, advertisements, Phi Kappa Phi publications both print and electronic, and any other venues used to promote and educate about The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and/or its award programs. Submit, on time, any reports required by Phi Kappa Phi and notify Society Headquarters of any circumstances that may alter your enrollment status during the 2008–2009 academic year. At the completion of the 2008–2009 academic year, submit a summary report of how you used the funds (approximately 350 words) to Society Headquarters by August 1, 2009. You will receive the award by the end of August 2008.
