ice cream. E-mail your birthdays and anniversaries to country@wkml.com. Don‟t
forget the name of the person celebrating the birthday and their daytime telephone
number. THANXXX! Don.
This is the 194th day of the year. There are 171 days remaining.
Let me give you your WKML Country Notes for July 13, 2010:
Aldean, Jason --- Jason Aldean has extended his Wide Open Tour into the fall, with
Luke Bryan joining him on most dates. He says, "We've had such a great year with
some really big songs and our first big arena tour, and I'm just not ready to move
on from it quite yet." Fall dates start September 10th in Corbin, Kentucky.
Brown, Ty --- Ty Brown, who was kicked to the curb on The Bachelorette recently.
is back in Nashville working on his country music career. He tells CMT.com, "On the
second episode, I played the first verse and the chorus to this song ("Living in the
Moment") on the beach, and got such a great response. So when I got back to
Nashville, I re-worked it with (songwriter) Dave Turnbull, and we're so excited
about the hype it's been getting now."
Bryan, Luke --- Luke Bryan is celebrating his second consecutive No. 1 single with
“Rain Is A Good Thing” hitting the top of both the Billboard and Mediabase/Country
Aircheck singles charts. This comes on the heels of his No. 1 gold-certified smash
“Do I.” Both songs are from his current album, “Doin‟ My Thing.” Bryan continues a
heavy tour schedule this summer and will hit the road again this fall with Jason
Aldean for his successful “Wide Open” arena tour.
Chesney, Kenny --- Kenny Chesney has new music out this week. The song is “The
Boys of Fall,” and it‟s the first single from his upcoming album, “Hemmingway‟s
Whiskey.” Kenny describes it as a song about football, but much more than that –
it‟s also about the relationship you form on the field, what you learn from the
game, and how those times can shape your life, just as they did for Kenny.
Gulf Coast Concerts --- More free concerts like the one Jimmy Buffet put on last
weekend in Gulf Shores, Alabama may be in the works -- possibly starring Faith Hill
and The Zac Brown Band. The BP-funded show brought thousands of tourists to an
area that has been devastated by the oil spill, and according to the Associated
Press, the oil company could pay for more shows at various coastal cities affected
by the spill.
Ingram, Jack --- Jack Ingram‟s 4th of July weekend performance in Aberdeen,
South Dakota, almost didn‟t happen due to Hurricane Alex. Jack was on a delayed
flight connecting through Houston on July 2nd. Because of impending weather
issues, flights were grounded and all flights later in the day were oversold. So Jack
made some calls and found a private jet. But the plane was an hour away. Jack said
he “ran down to the rental car counter (and) jumped into whatever car they had
on-hand.” He said it was “insane all the way there. Water was rising on the streets
and the road that led me to the charter jet had water knee high. I was hoping that
the engine wasn‟t going to give out on me as I drove through the water. Luckily, I
made it to the small plane, boarded as the lone passenger, asked them to take off
immediately, and arrived in sunny South Dakota in just enough time to hit the
stage.”
Jaron & the Long Road to Love --- On the heels of his new album, “Getting Dressed
In The Dark,” becoming the highest-charting debut album from a new act this year
on Billboard‟s Top Country Albums chart, Jaron of Jaron And The Long Road To Love
is now hitting the road with Toby Keith on Toby‟s “American Ride Tour.
Lambert, Miranda --- Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton are headed to Florida to
hunt alligators. Miranda took to Twitter to share her excitement. She writes, "First
time for me. I can't wait."
McEntire, Reba --- Reba McEntire knew she had a single on her hands with "Turn on
Your Radio" after the first listen. She says, "I love that it's an up-tempo, strong-
woman song about a woman who has been done wrong by her lover and is telling
him to turn on the radio if he wants to hear from her through their favorite song."
Reba has recorded a string of empowering songs for women, including "Strange"
and "Consider Me Gone."
Moore, Justin --- Justin Moore‟s latest single, “How I Got To Be This Way,” is a self-
penned autobiographical song, so when it came time to filming the music video,
Justin chose to provide insight for fans showing how he got to be who he is through
childhood photos placed throughout the video. “There are some performance clips
in it, of me performing in this old shed. And then we also put in some performance
clips of me and my band at different shows we‟ve performed over the past year.
And then we have some pictures of when I was a kid doing some of the stuff I sing
about in this song.”
Nashville Rising --- The numbers are in, and the June 22nd Nashville Rising concert
spearheaded by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill raised more than $2.2 million for flood
victims in Middle Tennessee. According to USA Today, the total represents ticket
sales, donations, merchandise sales and sponsorships. The money is being
distributed by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
New Music --- Jerrod Niemann's first major-label release, Judge Jerrod and the
Hung Jury, is in stores today. The album's 20 tracks include the hit "Lover, Lover,"
but not all of them are music. Jerrod strings together the songs with dialogue and
skits, making it a unique project. And check out the songwriter credits -- they run
the gamut from Jamey Johnson to Smash Mouth's Steve Harwell.
Niemann, Jerrod --- Jerrod Niemann is hardly new to country music. He wrote
Garth Brooks' hit "Good Ride, Cowboy," which was a tribute to Chris LeDoux.
Jerrod Niemann released two independent CDs prior to Judge Jerrod and the Hung
Jury -- 1999's Long Hard Road and 2004's Jukebox of Hard Knocks.
Jerrod Niemann is a Kansas boy -- born in Harper and raised in Liberal.
Rucker, Darius --- If Darius Rucker had stopped writing songs at number-76, we
wouldn't be listening to his next hit, "Come Back Song." In a new YouTube video,
he explains that it was the last song he wrote for his next record. Also on the new
album is a duet with pal Brad Paisley. No release date has been announced.
Steel Magnolia --- Steel Magnolia admit that their favorite part of the H2O Tour is
when Brad Paisley launches into the encore, "Alcohol." The duo's Joshua Scott
Jones says, "We wait a few minutes and then we walk out... And this bigger-than-
life, big-headed Brad walks out on stage and pushes this bar out and serves
everybody drinks, and then we just kind of run around the stage like idiots." But
Brad -- the notorious tour prankster -- says it took a while for his co-stars to
understand they weren't being brought on stage for a practical joke.
Turner, Josh --- Josh Turner granted a dying girl's wish to meet him right before
she passed away. According to TheBoot.com, Josh had planned on meeting 10-
year-old cancer patient Elizabeth Pitts when his tour passed through her hometown
of Valdosta, Georgia on July 17th. But when he found out that the girl might not
make it that long, he called her and sang to her over the phone. Elizabeth died later
that day.
Underwood, Carrie --- Here are 5 facts about the wedding you may not know:
-Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher married in a private ceremony at Reynolds
Plantation in Georgia in front of 250 guests.
-The newlyweds are said to be honeymooning in French Polynesia.
-Guests are said to have included the three original judges of American Idol, Tim
McGraw, Faith Hill and Garth Brooks.
-The couple read their favorite Bible verses during the ceremony.
-Carrie wore a Chantilly lace dress designed by Monigue L'Hullier.
News of the Weird: Police in Washington, D.C., are trying to determine how a
teenage impostor managed to take a city bus for a joy ride, picking up passengers
before crashing the vehicle into a tree. William Jackson, 19, somehow obtained a
Metrobus driver uniform and faked his way behind the wheel of a bus at a depot in
Bladensburg, Maryland. Police said Jackson took the bus Friday afternoon and
followed its scheduled route, picking up several passengers along the way. Police
said Jackson drove the unsuspecting, paying passengers for about 4 miles before
crashing the bus into a tree. He then fled on foot before being apprehended by
police. The passengers aboard the bus also fled. Jackson was arrested on charges
of unauthorized use of a vehicle and fleeing an accident.
It‟s time now for Officer Don‟s Police Blotter: A Santa Ana, California, woman was
sentenced to a year in jail after she sent hundreds of threatening text messages to
herself. Jeanne Mundango Manunga claimed that the text messages came from her
former boyfriend and his sister-in-law. Apparently the messages began after she
and her former love interest broke up in 2008. She was convicted in May of three
felony counts of false imprisonment by fraud or deceit and two misdemeanor counts
of making a false police report.
Welcome to today‟s “WKML Don Chase Secret 2 Success,” a service of Bible Alive
Ministries. Dr. Ralph Richardson, teacher.
Our motto is “Expect Great Things to Happen.”
Do you ever find yourself feeling overwhelmed? With jobs, families, kids, school,
college, church, it‟s easy to burn the candle at both ends and in the middle. I was
talking with a friend the other day and he asked me what I did when things get
fuzzy, when I feel that my plate is running over? My answer: I get moving. My
favorite thing to do is go for a drive or go for a walk. Getting away for a few
minutes usually helps clear things up a bit. Any tips you can share will be
appreciated. Email them to me at country@wkml.com.

Days after LeBron James announced he's leaving his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers
for the Miami Heat, the decision continues to create controversy, with NBA
commission David Stern lashing out Monday at Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, civil
rights activist Jesse Jackson and LeBron himself. Last week Gilbert issued a letter
to fans criticizing James for his "cowardly betrayal" and "selfishness." That
prompted Jackson to say Gilbert viewed LeBron as "a runaway slave." On Monday,
Stern fined the Cavs owner $100,000 for his "ill-advised" letter, criticized Jackson
for his "equally imprudent" remarks and even went after the King himself, calling
LeBron's hour-long ESPN announcement special "ill-conceived, barely produced and
poorly executed."
The Fayetteville Swampdogs/Marlins game was postponed last night and has been
rescheduled for July 28 beginning at 6:05pm.
Officials conducted an autopsy yesterday on Mark Niver, a drag racer who died
when the parachute came off the back of his dragster -- sending him slamming into
the netting at the end of the track. Niver, 60, was taking part in the National Hot
Rod Association's Lucas Oil Northwest Nationals in Seattle, Washington, on
Sunday. After the parachute came off, he was able to slow the car a bit before
plowing into the net fencing at the end of the drag strip. The death was the second
this year in the association's drag racing series.
A tape released yesterday in which Mel Gibson apparently acknowledges that he hit
the mother of his child will be added to evidence being reviewed in a domestic
violence investigation involving the actor. A Los Angeles County sheriff‟s spokesman
said detectives did not have the tape before but would be acquiring it this week. In
the recording, Gibson‟s former girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, recounts an incident in
which she says Gibson hit her as she held their baby daughter, breaking the
model‟s teeth. A voice believed to be Gibson‟s is heard telling Oksana she
“deserved” it.
Jesse James won the first round in a bitter custody battle over his daughter with
ex-wife Janine Lindemulder on Monday. Court appointed investigator Loni Klein
told the Orange County, California court "Mr. James could do with better parenting
tools and should attend parenting classes. But in my opinion, at the moment Sunny
should remain in Mr. James' care." Lindermulder, a one-time porn star and
recovering drug addict, has served time in a federal prison on income tax charges,
and was sent to a half-way house after her release.

Oil Spill --- BP robots attached a new, tighter-fitting cap on top of the gushing Gulf
of Mexico oil leak yesterday, raising hopes that the crude could be kept from
polluting the water for the first time in nearly three months. Placing the cap on top
of the leak was the climax of two days of work a mile below the sea. The next
unknown is whether the 18-foot-high, 150,000-pound metal stack of pipes and
valves will work. BP plans to start testing them today. As of yesterday, the 83rd
day of the disaster, between 89 million and 176 million gallons of oil had poured
into the Gulf, according to government estimates.
Duke University has demolished the infamous house where a woman alleged she
was raped by members of its lacrosse team. Bulldozers demolished the infamous
Duke Lacrosse house at 610 North Buchanan Street in the Trinity Park today. In
2006, stripper Crystal Mangum accused members of the Duke Lacrosse team of
rape during a party that was held at the property. The charges proved to be false,
but it took an investigation by Attorney General Roy Cooper to clear the names of
the three prosecutors. The prosecutorial misconduct by then Durham District
Attorney eventually led to his disbarment. There are still pending civil suits
stemming from the case. Duke University, which owns the property, would not say
what it intends to do with the property after the debris is cleared. (Source:

North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Tom Fetzer says the Legislature should
have passed legislation that would allow the governor to hire someone outside the
Highway Patrol to lead the troubled agency. State law requires the Patrol‟s
commander come from within its ranks. Perdue announced last week a patrol
restructuring was ahead and said every trooper would now sign a code of conduct.
Patrol Commander Col. Randy Glover stayed on the job. Fetzer criticized
Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue at a news conference Monday because he said she
failed to clean house enough at the patrol following public embarrassments
involving troopers. State law essentially prevents anyone but a uniformed trooper
from leading the patrol. Fetzer said an outsider is needed with law enforcement
experience to rebuild the patrol culture that is infiltrated with crnyism and politics.

Police charged a Raleigh woman today with trying to sell her 2-month-old child. The
Raleigh News and Observer newspaper reports Sharri Chellerina Butler, 22, of 500
Dorothea Drive is in the Wake County on $10,000 bail. She‟s of trying to abandon
or sell for money her child to an unknown party back on June 8. Butler a
magistrate today that randomly dialed a telephone number and left a message,
indicating the child was for sale. Records do not indicate who she was calling.
Butler also told the magistrate she signed custodial rights of two older children to
their grandmother last week. Butler has a prior criminal history in Wake County
that includes convictions for misdemeanor larceny, probation violation,
misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury and breaking and entering.
North Carolina's unpaid taxes total more than the $800 million shortfall that
legislators had to balance in the state's new $19 billion budget. The Charlotte
Observer reported Monday the delinquencies mark a 67 percent jump from a year
ago. State Revenue Department spokeswoman Beth Stevenson says the agency
hopes to recover $220 million by garnishing paychecks. She says officials have
reached payment agreements for another $130 million. Stevenson says about
$110 million of the $840 million is simply uncollectable Tax agency officials say the
increase in unpaid taxes is due less to the bad economy than to better ways they
have of identifying delinquents. (Source: Associated Press)
The credit scores of millions of Americans are sinking to new lows. According to the
government, 25.5% of Americans – nearly 43.4 million people – now have a credit
score of 599 or below, marking them as poor risks for lenders. It‟s unlikely they‟ll
be able to get credit cards, auto loans or mortgages under the tighter lending
standards banks now use. Scores range from 300 to 850. Before the big recession
that began in December 2007, just 15% of the 170 million consumers with active
credit accounts, or 25.5 million, fell below 599, according to www.Myfico.com. On
the positive side, the number of Americas who have a top score of 800 has
increased. At least in part, this reflects that more individuals have cut spending and
paid down debt. Their ranks now stand at 17.9%, which is notably above the
historical average of 13%, though down from the 18.7% in April 2008.
Researchers are trying to figure out a way cell phone users can use their device to
check their blood pressure. Researchers at George Washington University Hospital
are testing whether they can successfully use an Internet-connected cell phone to
gather information on patients. The trend is called “mobile health,” or “mHealth.” If
you‟re a savvy smartphone user, you‟ve probably seen lots of apps that claim to
help your health or fitness goals – using your phone like a pedometer or an alarm
clock to signal when it‟s time to take your medicine. But George Washington
University researchers want to take it to the next level.
Consumer Reports said yesterday it would not recommend purchasing Apple‟s
iPhone 4 because of persistent reception problems. The magazine said the fourth
generation iPhone has an antenna-design flaw – contradicting claims by Apple that
the problems were a software issue. CR tested three separate iPhone 4s and found
that when the bottom left corner of the iPhone is touched it can lose about 20
decibels, or enough signal strength to drop a call. “Our findings call into question
the recent claim by Apple that the iPhone 4‟s signal-strength issues were largely an
optical illusion caused by faulty software that „mistakenly displays 2 more bars than
it should for a given signal strength,‟” the magazine said. It also said AT&T did not
appear to play a big role in the signal problems.
