“New Divide”
(Ben Centric)
Corey M
We open with Ben leaving his tent on the beach camp and noticing a group of people huddled around someone, lying on the beach. He approaches to see Charlie, lying in the middle of the group. BEN: “You…You died.” Charlie ignores. CHARLIE: “I‟m not gonna answer any questions about what happened to me after I died, you all already know that. I visited Hurley. Told him to come back to this sodding island. A guy named Jacob came and revived me today. He told me something important.” JACK: “What did he tell you, Charlie?” CHARLIE (Gravely): “He said you and only you, Jack, have to go with Richard, Ilana, and Bram. Even though I don‟t know who the hell any of them are, I‟ll take a free pass out of death when I can get one.”
Ben hears something. He turns around, and looks up into the sky. We only see his face, not what he‟s looking at, but he is shocked. He turns to face the survivors and draws a pistol. JACK: “What the hell are you doing?” BEN: “I‟m going into the jungle. There‟s something important I must do. If anyone follows me I swear to god I will shoot them.” JACK: “Alright, Ben. Do what you need to do and stay away from us.” Ben sprints into the jungle. Jack motions to Sayid and Sawyer to follow him. They get up and grab guns from inside a tent. MILES: “Grab one for me. I‟m going too.” SAWYER: “We ain‟t got the time, Eskimo. You‟ll only slow us down.” MILES: “You‟re slowing yourself down right now. Just get me a gun.” Sayid grabs him a pistol. The three run into the jungle. Claire exits her tent and walks on the beach. CLAIRE: “What‟s going on?.... Charlie?” Charlie gets up and runs to Claire, kissing her. CLAIRE: “You‟re supposed to be dead! What the hell are you doing here?” CHARLIE: “Somebody named Jacob brought me back and told me if I delivered a message to Jack, I could live.” The two hug. Ilana and Bram enter the scene, Richard using them for support to walk. RICHARD: “Jack, you‟ve gotten your message. Come with us.” JIN: “Jack is not going anywhere.”
Bram draws his gun. BRAM: “Look, Jack, if you don‟t come, you‟re going to have more blood on your hands. So come with us.” Jin tries to speak up, but Jack hushes him. JACK: “I‟ll go. Don‟t wait up.” He gives Kate a wink, and he is whisked off into the jungle. FRANK: “What the hell just happened? All of our people just…left.” CHARLIE: “Firstly, who are you?” FRANK: “I‟m Captain Frank Lapidus. I was on this island 3 years ago, and now I‟m back.” CHARLIE: “Well, Frank Lapidus, I think what just happened is we‟ve got ourselves a new divide.”

Act Two
Ben is running through the jungle, gun in hand. We hear a „whoosh‟, indicating that a flashback is about to begin.
(Flashback, On island, 2004)
Ben and Tom are inside a house in the barracks. Ben is wearing an orange shirt and khaki shorts just as he was when he was captured and took on Henry Gale‟s identity, but the clothes are clean and not torn. BEN: “So, I just follow the compass bearing, enter the camp and take John Locke?” TOM: “Yeah, Ben, that‟s all you gotta do.” BEN: “Why me, Tom? Why not someone else? I mean, I am the leader, I could just tell you to go.” TOM: “John Locke is an old man. We wouldn‟t want to have to waste man power on him. Just go, Benjamin.” Ben leaves without another word. We cut to Ben, walking through the jungle with nothing on him. He enters a clearing and hears something stirring. He jumps and turns to the area where the movement is coming from. Someone lights a torch and walks to Ben, his face in shadows. The torch then illuminates his face, revealing Henry Gale. HENRY (Confused) : “Who are you?” Ben pauses. BEN: “You first.” HENRY: “I‟m Henry Gale. I‟m from Minnesota. I crashed here on my balloon.” BEN (Shaking his hand): “Hello, Henry, I‟m Ben. I‟m with a team that is here to rescue you.” HENRY: “Great! I guess I won‟t need that letter after all. Where‟s the team?” We exit the flashback with a scene of Ben‟s smiling face.
We are back in the jungle. Ben is still running tirelessly to find what he was looking for. We see a shot of Ben‟s front, with Sayid, Sawyer and Miles creeping about 15-30 feet behind him. Ben abruptly stops as he enters a clearing. He is startled. The camera revolves to reveal a broken apart, crashed plane.
Jack follows Ilana, Bram, and the injured Richard into the jungle. JACK: “Where are you taking me?” ILANA: “We‟re going to the Staff to patch up Richard…And, for something of more importance.” Bram turns his head to look at Jack while talking. BRAM (Smiling): “Kinda a two birds, one stone thing.” JACK: “Should I like the sound of that?” He doesn‟t get an answer. Next shot is a black screen. A door at the top of the screen opens, revealing we are inside the darkened Staff Medical Station. The door is opened by Bram, who switches on the light. The group enters the Staff. Wordlessly, they enter the secret room. Richard lies on the table. BRAM: “You‟re a doctor, right Jack?” JACK: “Yeah, Bram, I‟ll patch him up.” Jack looks around for something, and then finds it. He grabs gauze and bandages, along with tweezers. Richard looks him in the eye as he uses the tweezers to remove the bullet.
Richard winces in pain. Jack uses gauze to try and stop the bleeding, but gives up on the sight of an iron. JACK: “Bram, get me that iron over there.” BRAM: “And why?” JACK: “I‟m gonna use it to cauterize his wound. It‟ll help stop the bleeding.” Bram does so. He plugs the iron in and hands it to Jack, who is about to put it on the wound. Richard stops him. RICHARD: “How‟s it gonna feel?” JACK: “Not good, Richard.” RICHARD: “You need work on your bedside manner, Jack.” Jack just puts the iron on the wound. It steams. Richard screams. End scene.
Act Three
(Flashback) Ben sits by Henry Gale, next to a fire. HENRY: “I‟m so happy to be getting rescued. When did you say your helicopter would be here? I got a girl back home. I need to see her.” BEN: “They‟ll be here soon enough, Henry.” Henry begins to say something, but Ben hits him in the face with a log.. He falls back. Ben begins to strangle him with his bare hands.
Henry is gasping for air, but can‟t get any. He struggles and struggles until going limp and dying. Ben falls back, breathing heavily. He just killed Henry Gale. End flashback.
Sawyer, Sayid and Miles crouch in the jungle behind Ben, who is walking toward the wreckage. SAWYER: “Where the hell did this plane come from?” MILES: “Good question, hill jack.” SAYID: “Keep your voices down and stay here. I‟m going in.” Sayid cocks his gun and follows Ben from a distance. Ben enters the back section of the broken plane. He sees a body inside. He flips it over and gasps. It‟s Charles Widmore, unconscious.
We return to the beach. Charlie sits with Claire next to a fire. CLAIRE: “Why did you go down there if he told you you were gonna die?” CHARLIE: “He said you and the baby would be safe. And you are.” CLAIRE: “Yeah, but Charlie, you don‟t know what happened to me after. It was scary. I had to lie to my people about it afterwards.” CHARLIE: “What happened to you?” As she is about to tell, rustling in the bushes is heard. Someone runs out, and falls on the sand. Kate, Jin, Sun, Frank, Charlie and Claire run to him and flip him over. Scene ends with a shot of Walt, lying unconscious and bloody in the sand.
We return to the plane. Widmore wakes up. He sees Ben‟s face. CHARLES: “I knew you‟d be the first one I‟d see when I woke up, boy.” BEN: “I‟m sorry for the past, Charles. I know why you‟re here, and I‟m going to follow your lead.” CHARLES: “You‟re on my side, then?” The two stand up. BEN: “Yes, Charles. I‟m on your side, for once. We‟re both fighting for the same thing here. Fate over free will.” CHARLES: “I‟m glad you see it my way, Benjamin. But we have more important business to do now. We have to go see him.” BEN: “Let‟s go, then.” The two exit the plane wreckage. Sayid is standing with a gun pointed at them. He motions to Miles and Sawyer, who come out, guns in hand. SAYID: “Is this Charles Widmore, Ben?” Ben nods. Sayid cocks his gun, ready and eager to shoot, when he hears guns all around him, from in the trees, cocking. CHARLES: “Put down your weapons, or you will be shot.” They do so. CHARLES: “Now get down on your knees.” Once again, they do so.
About 15 men in the same mercenary clothes as Keamy and his group walk into the clearing. BEN (Whispering to Charles): “Who are they?” CHARLES: “Benjamin, these people are going to make sure that we win this war. These are my people.” The camera zooms out, with a final shot of the mercenaries surrounding the group.
