Initial Voicemail Setup Instructions Please perform these tasks using the IP phone located at your workstation. You may wish to read through the setup instructions to become familiar with the tasks. You may wish to write down your personal greeting before recording it. To begin the setup process, press the “messages” button on a 7941 or 7961 or press the “Msgs” soft key on a 7911. Key in the default password “357159 “, followed by the “#” key when prompted for your password. The voicemail system will prompt at each step of the setup process: 1. Record your name or your name and department when prompted. Example: “John Smith” or “John Smith, Natural Science”. Press 1 to re-record or press # to accept the recording. 2. Record a greeting that outside callers hear when you do not answer your phone. Follow the system prompts record a new greeting or # to accept the system greeting. Sample Greeting: “ Hello, you have reached the voicemail for INSERT_YOUR_NAME. Please leave a detailed message at the tone and I will return your call as soon as possible. If your call requires immediate assistance, please press ### and key in extension number 6xxxx to reach immediate assistance. “ Replace 6xxxx with the 5 digit extension you would like the caller to be transferred to. 3. Change your phone password. Passwords must be 5 digits long. Key in a new password followed by the # key. Key in the same password followed by the # key again to confirm you have entered the same password. 4. Choose whether to be listed in the directory. (When you are listed in the directory, callers who do not know your extension can reach you by spelling your name. You must have a recorded name to be listed in the directory.) Press 1 to turn listing status on or press 1 again to change listing status to off. Press # to confirm listing status.
